CAMDEN EXTENSION CONNECTIONS
MAY 2021 RECAP

Agriculture
Camden County Corn Hybrid Trial Planted
The Camden County Corn Hybrid Trial was planted on May 4th in the Hale’s Lake area. This trial consisted of 22 hybrids planted, representing 11 companies. Trials with the same hybrids are also planted in Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans Counties to provide locally generated hybrid performance data from our soils and conditions. These trials would not be possible without the support from farm cooperators and seed company representatives. I would like to especially thank Black Gold Farms of Camden for providing the land and other resources necessary for the Camden County location.

Family & Consumer Sciences
Virtual Yoga, Mental Health Series and More!
May was a busy month for the Family and Consumer Sciences Department. Our Virtual Yoga Series wraps at the end of this week with a total of 80 participants. Participants were able to view pre-recorded videos of 20 to 30 minute yoga videos at their convenience.

A Mental Health Series was offered to contain three seminars on how to manage stress addressing Physical Activity, a healthy diet, and mindfulness. Participants could view the series live on Tuesdays at noon or view the recording on YouTube at their leisure.

Olivia, the Family, and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent also offered two classes as part of a Virtual Multi-County Health Fair. Participants learned how to create a home gym and participated in a virtual yoga class.

As things begin to look a little more like normal the family and consumer sciences department held their first hybrid virtual and in-person cooking class. While in-person attendance was low all registered participants joined us live to learn how to limit their sodium and use fresh herbs and spices to season their foods.

For more information about upcoming classes check out our website at www.camden.ces.ncsu.edu or contact Olivia Patchel via email at Olivia_Patchel@ncsu.edu.
