Alexander County 4-H Clubs

Now is a great time to get involved with 4-H Clubs in Alexander County.  Below is a list of our active clubs at this time.  If you are looking for a club and need more information please contact the 4-H Office at 828-632-3125.

Alexander County Livestock 4-H Club was not able to meet in September due to Labor Day.  Their next meeting will be held on Monday, October 3 at 7:00p.m. at the Alexander County Service Center
Alexander County 4-H Garden Club-met in September at the Taylorsville Community Garden to plant winter vegetables. The crops of radish, swiss chard, arugula, cilantro, lettuce, snow peas, and kale have grown so fast in just a few weeks! Club members also transplanted some pansies and snapdragons to give the garden some color this fall.

The kale will be harvested at our November meeting to make a super yummy recipe in the kitchen with Mrs. Der, our FCS Agent. All other vegetables will be harvested and donated to the Mobile Cafe here in Taylorsville.

The next meeting will be October 13th @ 5:30pm at the NC Cooperative Extension Center located in the Alexander County Services Building.  The group will be learning how to make pumpkin floral arrangements!  If you plan to attend this meeting, you MUST RSVP by Monday, October 10th. This will allow time to gather enough materials for everyone!

If you have any questions about 4H Garden Club, please give Cari Mitchell a call (828-632-4451).

September 4-H Round-up
Alexander 4-H has began after school programming again with the elementary schools and the students have really enjoyed the topic.  Taking simple materials like:  a two liter bottle, pvc pipes, cardstock and tape, the students have constructed rockets that have launched over 100 feet.  In this program students learn about engineering and rocketry.  They also use math and geometry to determine their rocket's launch angles.  This is a great program to engage physical fitness as it requires lots of walking, running and jumping.  We look forward to offering this program throughout the month of October to the remainder elementary schools.
