The Nickels for Know-How referendum is being held on November 17 to let users and producers of feed or fertilizer decide if they wish to continue the self-assessment program. This program has been in place since 1948, and the law requires that a new referendum be held every six years.
WNC AgOptions is now accepting grant applications from farmers diversifying or expanding their businesses. With funding from the N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, WNC AgOptions is distributing a total of $220,000. The application deadline is November 18. Intent to Apply deadline is Oct 14.

It’s Apple Season!
It’s October, which means it’s finally fall, cooler weather and tons of apples! Since 1996, National Apple Month has been celebrated every October. There are many different varieties of apples. You can get them sweet as you like, or choose the sour ones for baking. If you get the chance to go pick them yourself, load up the family and go!
Come Grow With Us: Junior Master Gardener Program in McDowell
The Junior Master Gardener (JMG) program is a youth gardening program of the NC Cooperative Extension. The Master Gardeners of McDowell will be launching a JMG Program this Fall/Winter. The volunteer leaders of the Junior Master Gardener program will at the Historic Marion Tailgate Market, Tuesday, October 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. to answer questions.
