October 2022
Happy October!

A time to enjoy cooler weather and the beautiful leaf changes. Extension is changing into fall programming with activities like 4-H presentations and exhibits at the NC State fairgrounds, watching our health before the holiday meals with nutrition classes, and prepping for fall vegetables. Feel free to contact any agents for fall programming or questions.

Cooperative Extension staff had the opportunity to participate in the first in-person statewide conference post COVID on October 3rd-5th in Greensboro, NC. We look forward to bringing the knowledge we acquired back to the Granville County community.

Bull BSE Test
October 21, 2022

Granville County Cooperative Extension and Warren County Cooperative Extension have planned a Bull Breeding Soundness Exam clinic for
October 21, 2022 at the Granville County Livestock Arena, located at 4400
Cannady Mill Road in Oxford, NC. We do not have room for any more bulls to be tested. But if you are interested in learning what is involved in performing a BSE on a bull, come out to see and learn. The BSE clinic will begin about 9am and should be done around 3pm that day. We have about 25 bulls scheduled to be tested. Contact Kim Woods for more information.
Nickels for Know-How Referendum
November 17, 2022

The Granville County Nickels for Know-How Referendum will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Mikayla Graham, County Referendum Chairman said 1 polling place has been established in the County. The polling location is:

County Extension Office at:  125 Oxford Outer Loop, Oxford, NC 27565

The referendum is being held to let users and producers of feed or fertilizer decide if they wish to continue the self-assessment program. This program has been in place since 1948, and the law requires that a new referendum be held every six years.

A 2/3 favorable vote will mean that growers are willing to continue to assess themselves to support agricultural research and education. The assessment is fifteen cents per hundred pounds on feed and fertilizer produced in North Carolina.

The funds, about $1.4 million annually, are collected by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and then allocated by the NC Carolina Agricultural Foundation, Inc.'s 148 volunteer Board of Directors to support agricultural research and extension projects at North Carolina State University benefitting agriculture in North Carolina.

For more information on the referendum, please call your County Extension Office at 919-603-1350
