September Highlights

September meant storms of activity and excitement at NC Cooperative Extension in Currituck. Here is your (slightly longer than) 60 second run down for the month. Included are overall numbers as well as highlights and images from 4-H, Agriculture, and Family and Consumer Sciences programs.

Fermentation Series

If you enjoy the science of fermentation, then join us for a series of fermentation classes! Each class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Currituck Extension Office. The fee for each class is $15.00. There is so much fun fermenting to do!

Ginger Beer October 12th

Ginger beer is a delicious spicy beverage perfect on its own or added to mixed drinks.
Kombucha October 26th

In this class, we will discover the interworking of this delicious probiotic drink.

Northeast NC Niche Ag Conference

The first annual Northeast North Carolina Niche Agriculture Conference will be held at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center in Barco, NC on November 18, 2022. A full day of education and networking is planned.

Horticultural topics including ginger production in high tunnels and fields, cut flower production, growing microgreens, and understanding GAP certification will be presented along with small farm livestock topics including poultry, swine, and small ruminant production and NC Choices. Lunch will be provided and will highlight a very special guest speaking on marketing your small farm successfully.

An Apple a Day

Explore the wonderful world of apples-everything from growing and production to taste nutrition and uses. If you love apples and want to learn more about them Currituck County 4-H has the class for you.

Youth ages 9-12 will put their taste buds to work and “Take the Apple Taste Test” on November 4, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. During this hands-on workshop, youth will learn about the different varieties of apples and how they are used, participate in an apple taste test, and learn about the nutritional facts and health benefits of apples.
