4-H County Council Meeting

Come join us for our first IN PERSON County Council meeting in over two years.

We will discuss our current county program, have updates from our clubs, and plan for 2023! We need everyone's input so we can make the best BETTER.

Meeting is open to all 4-H'ers, parents, volunteers and friends!

Clover Class Series: Project Record Training and Work Session

Youth and families may attend a class on Project Records and Portfolios. You will receive instructions on how to prepare them step by step. Scrapbooking materials will be available to work on your supplemental pages, provided we have time.

Tractor Supply Clover Days!
Tractor Supply Company Clover Days are from October 5-16, 2022.  There are three Tractor Supply locations if you are interested in earning some volunteer service hours. There will be a 4-H information table at each location and it is always nice to have a 4-H'er available to thank the patrons for their donations. If you wanted to take it another step - use this time to share something you have learned with the community, share about your club, or how people can get involved.

Pickin' in the Pines

You're invited to the 2022 fundraiser and celebration "Pickin' in the Pines" at Millstone 4-H Camp on October 15 from 5 p.m to 10 p.m!

For three years, Millstone 4-H Camp has held "Pickin' in the Pines" to raise money to help send deserving youth to camp. We are proud to say that, with your help, we have raised funding to send 60+ youth in need to camp since this fundraiser started in 2018! We want to keep this momentum going into this year's event.

Join us for a magical evening of food, music, drinks, dance, and friendly gathering in the Pines!

U.S. Department of State scholarships for U.S. high school students

This is a tremendous language learning opportunity! Opportunities are available for high school youth, volunteers, partner educators who may be interested. Below is information with links that will be helpful in your application process.


Virtual National Security Language Initiative for Youth (Virtual NSLI-Y) application is now available! Virtual NSLI-Y is a U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs program that provides a beginner-level foreign language and culture experience.

  • Eligible U.S. high school students can apply to Virtual NSLI-Y Winter 2023 to study Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Korean, Russian, or Turkish. Selected finalists will receive a merit scholarship to study the target language and associated culture(s) in live, online classes with peers from across the U.S. for 10 weeks in January – March 2023!  Application deadline is October 20. Participation in a Virtual NSLI-Y program does not affect eligibility for the overseas 2023-24 program.
  • National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) is also a U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs program that provides overseas language study opportunities for high school language learners of all levels. Eligible U.S. high school students can apply to NSLI-Y 2023-24 to study Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian, or Turkish. Selected finalists will receive a merit scholarship to study the target language in a host country in Summer 2023 or Academic Year 2023-24. Application deadline is November 3.

Additional U.S. Department of State study abroad scholarship opportunities for U.S. high school students include:

  • YES Abroad offers participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in the life of one of 14 countries for an academic year (10 months). The YES Program focuses on countries with significant Muslim populations. Participants develop critical global leadership skills, promote mutual understanding, and form lasting ties in their host communities by living with a host family and attending local high school.  (Application deadline: December 7, 2022)
  • FLEX Abroad Like YES Abroad, participants spend an academic year (10 months) living with a host family, attending a local high school, and forming lasting relationships within their host community. Host countries include Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Poland.  (Application deadline: December 7, 2022)

The programs seek applicants who represent the diversity of the United States. Students of all racial, ethnic, religious, gender identities, sexual orientations, disabilities, and socio-economic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

NC 4-H Volunteers needed for NC State Fair - 2022

This year the NC State Fair is again allowing NC 4-H to have a presence in the Educational Building by providing youth and adults the opportunity to answer questions about 4-H and to tell the 4-H story.

The Fair is open from Thursday, October 13 through Sunday, October 23, 2022. This year we have over 500 items displayed in the Crafts, Entomology, Photography, County Exhibits, Hay Bales, and Livestock areas of the NC State Fair.

This is a great opportunity to showcase the 4-H Youth Development program.

Please see the attached letter that details information that will make your enrollment and re-enrollment much easier. If you were enrolled in the system last year, you will not have to set up a brand new account. Your login information is the same. Please reach out if you need assistance or need your password reset.

Adults, please note that in the information transfer many of our volunteers and adult birthdates were changed. Unfortunately, you will need to go in and add your actual date of birth.

Also note that you will need to determine a club affiliation in order for your
application to go through. If you are not in a particular club, please select
Member at Large (Cumberland County).

Please refer to the letter attached and contact the 4-H office if you have any questions.
