November Volunteer Spotlight

For the month of November, Yancey County 4-H would like to spotlight our Beef Club leaders, Lynn Austin and April McCurry.

The Yancey County 4-H Beef Club is open to youth ages 8-18. In this club, youth can explore and learn about raising, showing and caring for cattle. In this club, youth can participate in the WNC Dairy Steer Project, a program where youth receive their own bottle calf and attend monthly meetings where they learn how to care for, raise and show their animal. The program concludes by participants showing their animal in two local Fairs. At the conclusion of the shows, they dairy steers are sold and youth receive the money from the sale.

This club would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of Lynn and April. The Yancey County 4-H Beef Club is one of our longest running clubs in the county. Lynn and April have volunteered countless hours to teach youth in Yancey County about the Beef production industry, giving them hands-on guidance and education about raising cattle. The next time you see April or Lynn, be sure to thank them for all they do for Yancey County 4-H youth!

If your child is interested in the Beef Club, they will resume meeting in the Spring of 2023. Be on the lookout for more information on our website and Facebook page!
Plan for 4-H Overnight Camp in 2023

There are few tools as powerful as the camp experience to positively impact the lives of young people. At 4-H Overnight Camp, your child can look forward to a week of making new friends, swimming, horseback riding, archery, canoeing, rock climbing, games, campfires, sleeping in cabins, and much more. The life skills they learn at camp, including responsibility and independence, will help them in school, when they attend college, and in their first jobs.
