Piedmont Farm School 2023

North Carolina Farm School (NCFS) is a unique entrepreneurial program developed by NC Cooperative Extension for aspiring, new, diversifying or transitioning farmers with the mission of increasing the number of successful farms in NC.

Class-size is limited to 30.  Cost is $399 per person or $599 per pair.  This school will focus on a 5 county cluster: Anson, Stanly, Union, Cabarrus, & Rowan.  Extension agents help conduct 8
classroom sessions, group facilitation and enterprise selection.  We teach sound production practices and crop management decision making.  The goal is for participants to leave with a fully developed business plan over a 4 month period.

Classroom hours utilize the support of agents in each of the 5 counties and the practical knowledge of local farmers visited on 5 field days.  Participants receive one-on-one support to develop strategic goals and help develop their ideas.  It is a think-plan-do program!

Tools include a student webpage, specialized entrepreneurship curriculum, business development case studies, enterprise budget tools, marketing guidelines, and individualized instructional help.  Participants are expected to have good attendance.  Graduating students should have a business plan draft written. Graduates are later involved as speakers, field day hosts, and student mentors for future participants.  Contact aimee_colf@ncsu.edu for more information and program dates.
