Congratulations to the Yancey 4-H Longshots!

On Saturday, November 12th, the Yancey County 4-H Longshots Club competed at the State 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament in Ellerbe, NC. Fifteen youth from Yancey County qualified to compete at the tournament, the most in club history. These individuals competed with over 150 other youth from across the State in the disciplines of Rifle, Shotgun and Archery. Yancey County 4-H was well represented at the tournament, and even brought home some State Awards. Becca Carroll received third place in Junior Rifle. Hunter Geouge received third place in Senior Shotgun. We would like to congratulate all of the youth who competed at the State Tournament!
Plan for 4-H Overnight Camp in 2023

We have just learned that we will be camping at the Eastern 4-H Center on the coast of North Carolina in 2023! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for youth to learn more about their State, while developing skills they will use for the rest of their lives!

There are few tools as powerful as the camp experience to positively impact the lives of young people. At 4-H Overnight Camp, your child can look forward to a week of making new friends, swimming, horseback riding, archery, canoeing, rock climbing, games, campfires, sleeping in cabins, and much more. The life skills they learn at camp, including responsibility and independence, will help them in school, when they attend college, and in their first jobs.

December Volunteer Spotlight

For the month of November, Yancey County 4-H would like to spotlight our Longshots Club leaders, Shane Hilliard, Joe Pate, Gerald Barnett, Mark Geouge, Levi Johnson, Clay Carroll and Jeff Fox.

The Yancey County 4-H Longshots Club is open to youth ages 8-18. In this club, youth can learn about firearm safety and responsibility, marksmanship, principals of hunting and more!

Yancey County 4-H Longshots is a 100% volunteer driven program. Shooting Sports volunteers attend trainings to become certified coaches, and work with the youth in their county to teach them essential skills such as the safe and responsible use of firearms, marksmanship and more. Without the dedication of these volunteers, this program would not be possible.

If your child is interested in participating in the Yancey 4-H Longshots Club, open enrollment begins in January for the 2023 season. Yancey Longshots is open to youth ages 8-18
and offers small bore rifle, trap shotgun (12 gauge & 20 gauge), compound and recurve archery.
