Lee County 4-H
ENROLLMENT STATISTICS | 11 VOLUNTEERS | 66 MEMBERS | 6 CLUBS
Crazy Quilters . Team Topshots . Magetsi . Young Commissioners . Cloverbuds . Nature Kids

Additional Enrollment Information:
  • There are two ways to participate as a 4-H'er in North Carolina. You can be an enrolled member or you can be a program participant. The state has guide sheets for information about 4-H online.
  • Take a minute and edit your account to include all the topics in which your child is interested. Often community groups will contact me with a special interest mentoring offer. Right now the Lemon Springs ECA club wants to offer their skills to club members who may want to learn about web design, sewing, biscuit making, ect. When these opportunties present themselves I will search the members for folks who might be interested and contact you.

What projects are
4-H'ers working on
this year?
Looking at the current enrollment records, we have folks working on projects in the areas of Swine, Poultry, Electricity, Pets, Citizenship, Engineering, Cooking, Food Sciences, Career Exploration, Communication Skills, Aquatics, Butterflies, Character, Leadership, Money Management, Personal Development, Arts, Drama, Photography, Healthy Living, Archery, Hunting, Outdoor Adventure, Sewing, & Wildlife.
In July check in on your project plans. Update Section 3 with those things you have done and still want to do. Now is a great time to start organizing pictures and making your “scrapbook” section.
A 4-H Civics Lesson
Pam Kerley, 4-H Program Assistant
Bill Stone, the County Extension Director, wrote an article in 2016 reporting that our youth are out of touch with politics and government. Tufts University had reported after the 2012 presidential election, using data and feedback from over 6,000 young people and 720 high school civics teachers nationally that less than half of young Americans vote, and this includes presidential elections. There is good news from Tufts Circle report in April of this year. They are now reporting the 2020 voter turnout to be half of the nation’s youth population with North Carolina at 55%. It is good to see these numbers rising because

Club Spotlight
Magetsi 4-H Club
Magetsi 4-H Club has been working on a couple of projects. Learning the basics of electricity and plant germination. Also how to budget for a birthday party for the club pet, Pulgas. They are FINALLY back on stage and will perform for the International Fest by El Refugio organization and Children's Day for Latina magazine. In June they kept up the rehearsal schedule to prepare for some festivals in September.
Leading for the Next Generation
Bill Stone, County Extension Director
One of my favorite things about working with the 4-H Youth Development program is the opportunity I have to witness young people taking an active role in shaping their futures. Over the past two weeks, thirteen future leaders embarked on the eighth annual Lee County 4-H Young Commissioner leadership program where they learned about areas including: local and state government, economic development, job interview and career skills, business etiquette, community service, and public speaking… all the while enhancing their own

State & National 4-H
NC 4-H Congress | July 19-21
State Public Speaking Contest | July 17
The event will be virtual at the state level but four Lee County youth will meet in person to enjoy the workshops and ceremonies together. We are looking forward to next year when we will be returning to the NC State Campus for this fun and educational event.

NC State University and N.C. A&T State University work in tandem, along with federal, state and local governments, to form a strategic partnership called N.C. Cooperative Extension.

Extension's 4-H program is the largest youth development organization in North Carolina. We help over 247,000 young people grow into active, contributing citizens each year.
