4-H Project Record Books

Project books due:  February 21, 2022

What is a Project record book?
A 4-H project record book is a compilation of all of a 4-Her's work in a given year regarding a specific topic.

Who does a 4-H Project record book?
All 4-Her's are welcome and encouraged to do this!!! The age divisions for competition are    5-7, 8-10,11-12,13-15, and 16-18.

Project books are required to go to some events like the annual Electric Congress.

Alexander County 4-H will be taking a group to the Eastern 4-H Center for a weeklong camp this summer.  June 18-24, 2023 will be the dates for this camp.  If you are interested and need more information please contact DJ Salyer at dj_salyer@ncsu.edu or call 828-632-3125.

Alexander County 4-H Clubs

Now is a great time to get involved with 4-H Clubs in Alexander County.  Below is a list of our active clubs at this time.  If you are looking for a club and need more information please contact the 4-H Office at 828-632-3125.
 
Alexander County Livestock 4-H Club met on Monday, January 2, 2023 at the Alexander County Service Center.  Allison Brown, County Extension Director, Livestock Agent, presented an educational program on the different types of feed and materials needed to take care of livestock.  She also spoke to the group about the different breeds of cattle.  Their next meeting will be Monday, February 6, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Alexander County Service Center.   New members are welcome to attend!
 
Alexander County 4-H Garden Club met in December to construct Christmas wreaths.  Members did a fantastic job putting together beautiful wreaths to enjoy throughout the holiday season, see photos below.  The next 4-H Garden Club meeting will be January 12, 2023 at 5:30pm at the Alexander County Service Center. 4-H'ers will learn about lichens! Members are encouraged to bring a lichen with them if they can find one around your home, park, etc.  Gently scrape them off or you can bring a picture if there is one you can't detach. Here are some common lichens to be on the lookout for. If your child is interested in joining this garden club, please call our office at 828-632-4451 or email me at cari_mitchell@ncsu.edu.
 



Southern Grace 4-H Club
met in December and used the sewing machines to make fabric coasters that resembled quilt blocks.  They turned out to be pretty in colors for the Christmas season.  
Due to limited meeting space this club is not taking any new members at this time.  
 



Shockers 4-H Electric Club
met on Tuesday, December 20th to learn about the different types of batteries and how they are used in everyday life.  Club members made a wet-cell battery using a lemon.  They also tested different types of wires and use the multimeter.  The next meeting will be held Tuesday, January 17th at 6:30 p.m.
 




Whisk it Up 4-H Cooking Club
met in December to make gingerbread houses to enter into the 4-H Gingerbread Contest. T
he next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 26th at 4:00 p.m. 
New members are welcome!  

 
WHEP (Wildlife Habitat Education Program) 
The WHEP team was not able to meet in December due to the weather.  The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 18 at 4:00 p.m. at the Alexander County Service Center.  Topics will include:  areial photography, BMP's, wildlife foods.

4-H Gingerbread Contest
This year's gingerbread house contest was amazing!! We had so many awesome entries! To see all the entries please visit our facebook page.

ALL 4-H members and volunteers MUST be enrolled in 4-H Online to participate in any programs or clubs that are provided by Alexander County 4-H.
