Macon County 4-H Newsletter

Happy New Year - We are excited for You To Join Us for 4-H in 2023

Below is a list of activities you might want to check out this year.


Re-enrollment opens January 10th for 4-H Online.


New Activities You Might Want to Check Out
Two new groups starting this month:

Macon 4-H Beekeepers (for ages 9 and up) will start their 2023 year in February.  Here are some details:
  • Taught by expert beekeeper from Macon County
  • All equipment is provided
  • Group will meet every other Wednesday throughout the season at 5:30
  • Learn everything you need to know about how to work with bees, keep them healthy and collect honey
  • Each youth needs an adult to work with them to be in this group
  • At the end of the year - youth will receive a hive of their own

WHEP (Wildlife Habitat Education Program  (for ages 8 and up) Our first activity will be Tuesday January 17th at 5:30 at the Macon Count Environmental Resource Center (1624 Lakeside Dr. Franklin, NC 28734):
  • Learn about wildlife, forestry, tracks, animal habitat and more
  • Both indoor activities and field trips to the forest
  • Meet professionals who work with wildlife as their career
  • Will meet every other Tuesday at 5:30

Summer Camp

Macon County will be attending two summer camps this year.  Residential camp at the 4-H Eastern Center (for age 8-14) will be June 25th - June 30th.  Fur, Fish and Game Camp (for age 11-16) will be July 16 - 21st.  Each camp is $525 with a possibility of partial scholarships.  Macon County 4-H must have your $100 deposit by February 1st if you are interested in camp. Please call Tammara for more information.


Club Corner
Macon Mountain Goats 4-H Club

Thank you Ms. Kara and Ms. Cindy for a great Christmas Pizza and Painting party.  Our artwork graces many homes and walls in Macon County now!

This month our club will help health check and give CDT shots to the Deitz Dream Farm herd of goats.  If you would like to learn more about what to look for in a healthy goat, come out and join our group for the day.  We will meet on Saturday January 14th at 3:00pm.  Please let Kara, Cindy or Tammara know if you would like to come help.  We need a head count of helpers.

Macon Archers

We have moved inside for the winter.  This month we will shoot on January 5, 12, 19 and 26.  1st year archers meet at 5:30 and more advanced archers meet at 6:30.  Our indoor range is at the Macon County Fairgrounds.  Remember there is no restroom and to bundle up.  It's cold...inside too.
Macon Sharp Shooters

We have moved inside and are shooting air rifles in the conference room of the Cooperative Extension Office.  This month we will shoot on January 9th and 23rd at 5:30.  Please let Coach Cory or Tammara know if you are interested in shooting air rifles this winter.  This group is for ages 8-18.
Budding Chefs and Top Chefs

The Top Chefs (ages 9-18) will meet on Tuesday January 10th at 3:45 and the Budding Chefs (ages 5-8) will meet on Wednesday January 11th at 3:45. 

Sassy Stitchers
Thank you Ms. Vicki, Ms. Elaine and Ms. Dolores for helping us create beautiful decorations for the holiday.  This month we will meet on Thursday January 19th and 26 from 3:45 - 6:00pm
