Seed Share at the Marion Library

The Extension Gardeners of McDowell County along with many citizens who are passionate about seed saving and sharing have been working diligently on opening a seed library at the Marion Branch. Grand Opening is March 4, 11 am to 1 pm. Just in time for planting season!

2023 Extension Gardener Training Series

The Extension Gardener classes are open to anyone wanting to learn more about good gardening practices based on research-based information. Anyone can attend these classes. The classes will be taught weekly on Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. starting February 16.

NC Cattlemen’s Association Annual Conference

Old Fort Clean Up Spring 2023

N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell County Center’s Keep McDowell Beautiful program will be partnering with Camp Grier, Old Fort Ride House, Kitsbow, and Hillman Brewing to remove trash in Old Fort. Volunteers will meet at the Old Fort Ride House on March 18 at 9 a.m.

Women and Heart Disease

February is Heart Month and a good time for women to focus on their heart health. Women can suffer a heart attack and not know it. Often these “silent symptoms” are hard for women to recognize and share with health providers. They often will think that the symptoms are due to anxiety.

McDowell 4-H is currently looking for club leaders for our 4-H Livestock Club. Leaders are integral to helping us teach the youth of McDowell County. We have lots of kids interested in livestock but need a leader to help coordinate the club.
