Mitchell County Youth Participates in District Horse Competition

For the last four months, youth from both Avery and Mitchell Counties have been meeting weekly to practice and study for the West District, NC 4-H Horse Bowl Competition. This competition is a very competitive event where youth from all over the West District of North Carolina get together in teams of four individuals and answer questions pertaining to the equine species. Questions can cover topics such as health, anatomy, genetics, riding, competition, tack, work, etc. The team that answers the most questions correct wins the round and advances to the next. This is a double elimination competition; meaning that if a team loses two competitions, they are eliminated from the competition. Only the top two teams from each age group (Junior, Mixed, Senior) will advance to the state competition that will be held in Raleigh, NC.

If you would like to watch the competition, it is held at the Tryon International Horse Park in Tryon, NC on February 11th, 2023. The competition will start at 9:00AM and will run until completion, which is typically in the evening.

G
ood luck to all the youth participants!  If you would like to learn more information about 4-H or Livestock, please contact Michelle South at (828) 387-5748.
