Project Record Books Due!

Project Record Books and Portfolios from last year are due Friday, February 10th at 5:00pm! Youth can drop their completed project record books or portfolios off at the Extension Office.

Yancey County 4-H Achievement Celebration

You're Invited to the Yancey County 4-H Achievement Celebration! Saturday, February 25th 2:00pm

Join us for a celebration of our Yancey County 4-H members and their achievementsduring the 2022 4-H year! Youth who participated in Yancey County 4-H in 2022 will be recognized for their awards and achievements across the entire 4-H program. The whole family is invited! Light refreshments will be served. Longshots Re-enrollment

Club enrollment for 2023 is now open for our Yancey County 4-H Longshots Club!

In this club, youth learn about firearm education, safety, and participate in shooting sports activities, including shotgun, rifle and archery. Youth have the opportunity to participate in regional, district and state competitions. Open to youth ages 8-18 (as of January 1st of the current year).

2023 4-H Online Re-enrollment

It is that time of year again! Time to re-enroll as a 4-H member for 2023! All members MUST re-enroll before they can participate in any 4-H activities, programs or club meetings. Contact Jordan if you have any questions!

Plan for 4-H Overnight Camp in 2023

We will be camping at the Eastern 4-H Center on the coast of North Carolina in 2023!

We have the following spaces still available:
  • 3 Girls (ages 8-12)
  • 1 Boy (ages 13-14)
  • 1 Girl (ages 13-14)

Spaces are filling up quickly, reserve your spot today! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for youth to learn more about their State, while developing skills they will use for the rest of their lives!

There are few tools as powerful as the camp experience to positively impact the lives of young people. At 4-H Overnight Camp, your child can look forward to a week of making new friends, swimming, archery, kayaking, rock climbing, games, campfires, sleeping in cabins, and much more. The life skills they learn at camp, including responsibility and independence, will help them in school, when they attend college, and in their first jobs.

Yancey County 4-H Summer Internship Now Accepting Applications!

Yancey County 4-H is now accepting applications for an intern (Age 15-21) to assist with 2023 Summer Fun programs. Interns will gain experience in program design, implementation, and evaluation as well as skills in public speaking, time management, and youth development. Position descriptions are linked below. To apply, please complete the application form. Applications are due no later than May 1st at 5 p.m.

New Year, New Clubs!

Are you looking for new opportunities for your child to participate in this year? Check out the clubs and programs that Yancey County 4-H has to offer youth ages 5-18!

Beef Club- New club members have the opportunity to participate in the WNC Dairy Steer Project. Open to youth ages 8-18. February – September. Youth participants get their own bottle calf, and attend monthly meetings where they learn how to care for, raise and show their animal. Program concludes by participants showing their animal in two local Shows. At the conclusion of the shows, the Dairy Steers are sold and youth receive the money from the sale. Returning club members have the opportunity to participate in their own Beef projects.


Tri-County Chick to Chicken Program- Open to youth ages 5-18. March – September. Youth participants get two chicks, and attend monthly workshops learning how to care for, raise and show their animals. Program concludes by participants showing their animals in the Avery County and WNC Mountain State Fairs.

Tri-County Small Animal Program- Open to youth ages 5-18. March – September. Youth participants get their own small animal (rabbit or guinea pig), and attend monthly workshops learning how to care for, raise and show their animals. Program concludes by participants showing their animals in the Avery County and WNC Mountain State Fairs.

Horse Club- Learn about horsemanship, anatomy, grooming, tacking, and more! This is an unmounted club, meaning youth will work with horses, but will not complete any riding. Club meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m.

Yancey County Longshots- Learn about firearm education, safety, and participate in shooting sports activities, including shotgun, rifle and archery. Youth have the opportunity to participate in regional, district and state competitions. Open to youth ages 8-18 (as of January 1st of the current year).

Electric Club- Learn all about the magic of electricity! Open to youth ages 10-18. Youth who participate in this program have the opportunity to attend NC 4-H Electric Congress in July of each year! Meetings are on the third Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. Continually accepting new members.

Arts & Crafts Club- Explore your creative side, learning about all avenues of arts & crafts! Open to youth ages 5-18. Meetings are on the second Monday of each month at 4:00 p.m. Continually accepting new members.

Outdoor Adventures Club- Learn about natural resources, wildlife, hiking, environmental science and more! Youth have opportunities to attend several trips including hiking, outdoor cooking, snow tubing and more! Open to youth ages 8-18. Regular Club Meetings are on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Continually accepting new members.

Sewing Club- Open to youth ages 5-18 of all skill levels! Learn the basics of sewing and craft your own creations to take home. Youth learn hand sewing and machine sewing techniques. Meeting occur every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. according to group assignment. Continually accepting new members.

Lego Club- Open to youth ages 5-18 in Yancey County! Youth will participate in a variety of Lego challenges, creating their own builds and expressing their creativity, all while making new friends! Meetings occur the second and third Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m., depending upon which group your child is in. Continually accepting new members.

Homeschool Club- Open to homeschooled youth ages 5-18 in Yancey County! Learn about a variety of topics from STEM, to cooking and more, while making new friends! Meetings occur the second Wednesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. Continually accepting new members.

Are you interested in a club not listed above? Starting a 4-H Club is easy! All it takes is an adult volunteer leader, and five youth from three different families! 4-H Clubs can be special interest clubs (that are focused around a central interest like cooking) or community based clubs which explore a different topic at each club meeting! We still have a few Yancey County 4-H T-shirts available for sale at the Extension Office! The shirts are $15 each and we have sizes Youth Large - Adult 3XL remaining. We accept cash or check (made to Yancey County 4-H).
