Come celebrate something new and excited for McDowell County gardeners and soon-to-be gardeners. The Grand Opening of the Seed Share at the Marion Library is set for Saturday, March 4, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Many fun activities have been planned for the grand opening. "Seed" you there!
The Extension Gardener classes are open to anyone wanting to learn more about good gardening practices based on research-based information. Anyone can attend these classes. The classes will be taught weekly on Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. starting February 16.
Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program–Deadline Feb 28
Deadline is approaching soon! No one plans or wants crop failures related to natural disasters, but it happens. Be prepared with crop insurance. You may qualify for Non-insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program at no charge.
Before you start purchasing baby chicks, it is a good idea to have a plan in place as to what materials you will need, and what your main goal is when raising chickens.
EcoForesters is holding a free workshop in partnership with the Burke County and McDowell County Centers, the NC Forest Service, and NRCS to inform landowners about opportunities to steward their forest. The workshop will be held Saturday, April 22, 10am-1pm, at the Burke County Agricultural Building. Lunch is included.
Marion East Clean Up Day The N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell County Center’s “Keep McDowell Beautiful” program will be partnering with the Marion East Community Forum to host a community-wide clean-up day. We will provide trash bags, gloves, safety vests, and training to volunteers. The event is on March 11, 12pm-3 pm.
N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell County Center’s Keep McDowell Beautiful program will be partnering with Camp Grier, Old Fort Ride House, Kitsbow, and Hillman Brewing to remove trash in Old Fort. Volunteers will meet at the Old Fort Ride House on March 18 at 9 a.m.

WNC Pullet Project We are excited to offer an opportunity for youth to raise their own egg laying chickens. Through a partnership with Henderson and Buncombe counties, the WNC Pullet Project is seeking youth. Youth will receive 5 birds and will learn how to care for them, raise them and show them. All at a low cost.
