EcoForesters is holding a free workshop in partnership with the Burke County and McDowell County Centers, the NC Forest Service, and NRCS to inform landowners about opportunities to steward their forest. The workshop will be held Saturday, April 22, 10am-1pm, at the Burke County Agricultural Building. Lunch is included.
Our office is collecting non-perishable food items, but not just any non-perishable foods. Our goal is to provide ingredients that families will be able to use to supplement a salad like salad dressing and croutons.
McDowell County is fortunate to have farmers that will grow fresh fruits and vegetables, tend to livestock, and harvest honey. One way to support our local farms is through Community Supported Agriculture.

N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell County Center’s Keep McDowell Beautiful program will be coordinating the annual Lake James Clean Up on Saturday, May 6, from 8 a.m. to noon. We would like to invite everyone to remove litter from Lake James and its shoreline.

It’s Brunch Time!
For the month of April, let’s celebrate National Brunch Month! Brunch is that meal that isn’t eaten at breakfast time, but it’s not considered lunch either. It combines dishes from breakfast with heavier dishes from lunch.
It is that time of year again! The Youth Foundation will be hosting the 2023 Kathy Norman Memorial Junior Horse Show April 22. It will be held at the McDowell Bridle & Saddle Club Arena starting at 10 a.m.
McDowell Young Guns Compete at District Competition
On Saturday March 18th, the McDowell 4-H Young Guns traveled to Catawba Valley Wildlife Club to compete in the District 8 North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Youth Hunter Education Tournament. Teams competed against school teams from all over our area.
NC State University and N.C. A&T State University work in tandem, along with federal, state and local governments, to form a strategic partnership called N.C. Cooperative Extension.
