Upcoming Meetings
County Council: for youth ages 12-18 years old as of January 1
-Next County Council meeting:
-Tuesday, April 4 at 6:30 PM at the Extension office in the Conference Room in Suite A
PALS: These meetings are for any parent, alumni, leader or supporter of Rowan County
4-H. If you are interested in 4-H or new to 4-H, you are invited to attend these meetings as well! Please
come share your ideas for 4-H and help us find ways to support Rowan County 4-H.

4-H Shout Outs
-4-H teens attended the South Central District 4-H Teen Retreat on March 4 & 5, held at Millstone 4-H Camp in Richmond County. Rowan 4-H'er & South Central District President, Nathan Croyle, helped lead this event. Two Rowan 4-H'ers ran for district officers and were elected by their peers: Olivia Stirrup (2023-24 President) and Ryleigh Fulghum (2023-24 Secretary). Attendees included Croyle, Fulghum, and Stirrup as well as David Croyle, German Jaramillo, Samantha Simon, and Lucas Weeder. They all represented Rowan County 4-H well!
-Thanks to David Croyle, Nathan Croyle, Samantha Simon and Christian Stebe who led the 4-H Pledge at the Salute to Agribusiness Breakfast on March 16.
-We had 13 Rowan youths participate in the Speak Up workshop series through February and March. They learned so much and grew in their public speaking skills!
-Congratulations to the
4-H'ers from the Happy Trails 4-H Club who recently participated in the 4-H Horse Bowl & Hippology contests in Raleigh! These 4-H'ers include: Lainey Plott, Lynlee Propst, Kyann Race, John Tucker, and Rosalie Wells.

Paper Clover Week at Tractor Supply
Help us raise money for 4-H by working a shift at Tractor Supply in Salisbury! 100% of the money raised goes to 4-H, with 90% of the donations from the Salisbury location coming back to
Rowan County 4-H!

It's time for one of our major 4-H fundraisers: Port-a-Pit!
Ways you can help:-Sign up to contact a local business about purchasing Port-a-Pit plates! We deliver to Rowan County businesses that purchase 8+ plates!-Help your 4-H member sell plates! Advertise via social media (videos, flyers, etc) and by visiting local businesses, family members, friends, schools, etc. to sell plates.-Adults & responsible, independent teens: Plan to come work at the event! It takes many hands to make this happen! We need kitchen help, people putting plates together, delivery drivers, etc. If you can help, sign up

The top 3 highest selling 4-H members will win:
-1st place seller: $50 cash
-2nd place seller: $30 cash

Rowan County 4-H Event Grants4-H'er must fill out applicationDue by Friday, April 14.-allows for 4-H’ers to apply for extra money to assist with the parental cost associated with attending more costly
4-H events
-grants are merit-based and designed to assist any Rowan County 4-H’er who wants to attend a 4-H event that costs money to the family
-amounts awarded will vary; 4-H'ers can be awarded up to $150 each annually
-grant applications are reviewed by a committee designated by the 4-H agent.

-April 1: Horse Eligibility Cards due for those planning to show horses at 4-H district & state horse shows
-April 4: Rowan County 4-H Pullet
Project & Rowan County 4-H Broiler Project registrations due

Rowan 4-H Volunteer Reporting for 2023
If you are registered as a 4-H Volunteer in 4-HOnline it is super important that you report your hours and contacts! This greatly assists Laura with her Extension reports every year, since your hours and contacts must be reported!
Please go to go.ncsu.edu/2023monthly4hreportrowan and complete your reports. Reports are due 10 days after the end of each month (January contacts due by Feb. 10). Email reminders will be sent to those who should be completing reports. It should only take about 5 minutes! |
