The Eat Smart, Move More, Take Control curriculum is coming to Granville County this spring. The program is an 8 session chronic disease prevention program that provides strategies to help adults manage their health. Recipes and nutrition handouts are provided to program participants, along with program incentives. This program will be held at the North Granville Senior Center in Stovall, NC on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. on March 28, April 4, 11, 25 May 9, 30 June 6, 13, 2023.
Person County Extension Community Association (ECA) Fundraisers

Come support the Person County Extension Community Association (ECA) this Friday, April 7th at 6:30pm at the Kirby Theater by joining us for the next installment of the FREE Friday Night Movie series put together by the Person County Tourism Development Authority. The movie is FREE but we will be selling concessions such as popcorn, chips, candy and drinks. The movie this month is "Encanto", which stands for enchantment. Come meet the Madrigal Family and their enchanted house. They are an extraordinary family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift -- every child except one of the daughters named Mirabel. However, she soon may be the Madrigals last hope when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger. Also come learn why "We Don't Talk About Bruno"!!!

CANNING WORKSHOPS
Virtual & In-Person

Join us from the comfort of your home as we teach the basics of food preservation throughout the months of April, May and June. Enjoy the flexibility to view live OR watch later at your convenience. You can choose by workshop topic or attend them all! Register online at go.ncsu.edu/preservingfood

The Person/Granville, Caswell and Orange County Extension Offices are joining forces to offer two in-person, hands-on canning workshops in April and May for only $10 each. Workshops will take place at the Orange County Extension Office Building.
Water Bath Canning - April 25th
Pressure Canning - May 25th

These two workshops are for anyone who wants to take that virtual information and actually apply it in the kitchen getting some hands-on practice. Therefore, it is very important that you attend the virtual series to get all of that information before registering for these in-person, hands-on classes. You can register at the Person, Granville, Orange or Caswell offices. Registration is first-come, first-serve and spots are limited. Your spot is not reserved until your payment is received.

Safe Plates Food Handler Training

Join us April 26 and 27, 2023 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm for our virtual Safe Plates for Food Handlers training. This is a free 4-hour training that covers basic information on safe food handling. This program covers temperature control, personal hygiene and health, preventing cross-contamination, cleaning and sanitizing, and allergens. This program is ideal for anyone working in restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and other food establishments. This course is also appropriate for volunteer and temporary food handlers, such as those working at soup kitchens or fundraising events. Great for churches and organizations that frequently serve food to groups. Also, this training serves as a resume builder for those seeking employment in the food service field.

This course does not provide any certification but is a good resource for any employees or individuals that work with food.


EVA Scholarship Opportunity
Extension Volunteer Association Scholarship
Due May 1st by 5:00pm

The Granville County Extension Volunteer Association (EVA) is pleased to announce that they will have the opportunity to award a $500 college scholarship to one youth and one adult this year. The primary purpose of this scholarship is to assist students, both youth and adults, in obtaining a college education in a 4-year degree preferably, but not exclusively, in life sciences, agriculture or family and consumer science or a 2-year degree in most any service or business related field. Students, youth or adults, must be enrolled at an accredited school in North Carolina. Applicants will be selected for a one-year term, primarily on the basis of academia, activities and honors. Financial need is considered.

Recipients awarded an EVA Scholarship will have an outstanding record of participation and achievement within their school and community. Additionally, recipients will possess an excellent record of academic achievement measured chiefly by their performance on school courses including English, mathematics, physical sciences and social sciences. Also, recipients will demonstrate an aptitude for college work which will be measured by their performance on college entrance examinations including the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and American College Testing (ACT).

Each applicant must submit a completed application, official school transcript, three letters of recommendation and a resume. A financial need letter can be also submitted but is optional.
