One in three adults has pre-diabetes. Are you the one?? The Person County Cooperative Extension Office and Person County Health Department are joining forces to bring you another National Diabetes Prevention Program. If you are interested in possibly participating in the next Diabetes Prevention Program, you will want to join us at one of the informational sessions on May 10, 11, or 16. Lunch N' Learn Workshops

Take Time for Yourself” You spend a lifetime making time for others — parenting, caregiving, volunteering, working — but how often do you take a personal timeout? The American Heart Association recommends making a conscious decision to do at least one thing every day that you enjoy. Taking time for yourself is good for your mind, body, and soul. Come to this virtual workshop on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 12:00pm (EST) to learn some tips on how to spend more time on just you. "Healthy Homes" - You have two chances to join us for this workshop in June to learn about how to have a healthier home. Topics discussed include moistures issues, cleanliness, safety hazards, ventilation, pests, contaminants, maintenance, and much more!!
  • Join us in-person on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 12:00pm at the Person County Extension office at 304 South Morgan Street. Cost is $5 and you must prepay by June 8th.

CANNING WORKSHOPS

It is not to late to join us from the comfort of your home as we teach the basics of food preservation throughout the months of May and June. The Person/Granville, Caswell and Orange County Extension Offices are joining forces to offer an in-person, hands-on pressure canning workshop on Thursday, May 25 at 6:00pm for only $10. Workshops will take place at the Orange County Extension Office Building.

This workshop is for anyone who wants to take that virtual information and actually apply it in the kitchen getting some hands-on practice. Therefore, it is very important that you attend the virtual series to get all of that information before registering for these in-person, hands-on classes. You can register at the Person, Granville, Orange or Caswell offices. Registration is first-come, first-serve and spots are limited. Your spot is not reserved until your payment is received.

Safe Plates At Home Food Safety Training

Join us Friday, May 19, 2023 at 10:00am for our Safe Plates at Home food safety training. This is a free training that covers basic information on safe food handling. This program covers temperature control, personal hygiene and health, preventing cross-contamination, cleaning and sanitizing, and allergens.

The Family Consumer Sciences (FCS) Extension Agent, Jennifer Brown, will be teaching a nutrition workshop at the beginning of the evening. There will be other breakout sessions, neck and hand massages, Zumba, gifts, and refreshments.




Tri-County Community Wellness Fair
Saturday, May 20, 2023
10am - 2pm on Orange Street in Oxford

The Granville County Extension Office will participate in the Tri-County Community Wellness Fair on Saturday, May 20th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Orange Street in Oxford, NC. Come and visit the Extension booth to get health information as well as learn about other Extension programs. There will be health screenings, fun activities, and food trucks on hand.
