Programming in Alexander County

May afterschool programs involved a fun science experiment while making a tasty treat.  Kids made ice cream by taking half and half, sugar, vanilla extract, salt and ice!  See below for instructions:

Ingredients:
1 cup half & half
1 Tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
3 cups of ice
1/3 cup salt

1. In a small resealable plastic bag, combine half-and-half, sugar, vanilla.  Push out the excess air and seal.
2. Into a large resealable plastic bag, combine ice and salt.  Place small bag inside the bigger bag and shake vigorousely, 7-10 minutes, until ice cream has hardened.
3. Remove from bag and enjoy with your favorite ice cream toppings.
