4-H Summer Fun in July


We have 4 fun activities coming your way this month.

Create Your Own Leather Art  - Tuesday July 11th 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Make your own bracelet and bookmark using leather punch and leather marking tools.  This is a fun class where your creativity can run wild. 
Ages 5 - 18. Cost: $6
  Max: 18

Needlepoint Adventure - Tuesday July 18th 1:00 - 3:00pm
We had so much fun with this project in June that everyone asked for more...  We will have a new design and project for July. 
Ages: 7-18   Cost: $3  Max: 10

Check Out Our Beekeeper's Observation Hive at the Library
Wednesday July 19th at 10:00am

Come join us at the Macon County Public Library to meet with Ms. Katie and see inside her observation hive.  Learn about how bees work as a community

Cloverbud Friend Fest - July 25 - 26 1:00pm - 3:00pm
See old friends, bring a friend, make a new friend!  Come join us for two afternoons of fun water games, crafts, snacks and more.
Ages: 5 - 8  Cost: $6

Youth Summer Livestock Series

The Youth Summer Livestock Series is for youth in Macon, Jackson, Swain, Haywood, Clay, Cherokee and Graham Counties.  Clinics for each species of livestock include: Cattle, Sheep, Goats, and Swine.  You do not have to own an animal to participate. Learn from volunteers and seasoned youth showman the proper techniques for raising and showing livestock.

Clinics will be held throughout the summer at the Fairgrounds
(July 13, July 27, August 10, August 24). 

Light supper at 6:00pm and clinic at 7:00 pm.  Please let us know the day before each clinic if you would like to join us for supper.


Summer Heat Livestock Show
July 21 and 22
Macon County Fairgrounds

The WNC Summer Heat livestock show will be on July 21 and July 22 in Franklin at the Fairgrounds. Sheep and Goats will show on Friday July 21 and Cattle will show on July 22.  Registration for the show is $30 per animal.

Club Corner
Macon Mountain Goats 4-H Club

MMG will be meeting at Deitz barn on 7/11 at 6 pm.  We will be practicing showing our goats and doing the obstacle course.  You may bring your own goat or use one from the barn. Please wear closed footwear and no sandals or flip flops.

July 14th and 15th MMG will be traveling to Knoxville to participate in the American Dairy Goat Assoc. Smoky Mountain Summer Classic.

There will also be a Summer Heat Livestock Show at the Macon County Fairgrounds on Saturday July 22nd.  If are interested in showing, please let Ms. Cindy know.

Macon Archers

Macon Archers will meet on Thursday July 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th.  First year archers please meet at 5:00pm and advanced archers meet at 6:00pm.  Remember that it is getting hot out there - please bring a water bottle with you.

We are registering now for our West District 4-H Shooting Tournament that will be held on Saturday August 12th.  Please sign up here or email Tammara by July 14h so that we know which competition you are interested in.

Macon Sharp Shooters

We will shoot on Saturday July 22nd and Saturday July 29th at the Sheriff Department range.  This will be our last two practices before the West District Tournament on August 12th.

Budding Chefs and Top Chefs


Our group will take July off but will meet back in August.  Happy 4th of July!

Sassy Stitchers

Thank you Ms Vickie and Ms Elaine for helping us complete our 4-H bags.  We will take the summer off and begin again in August.  Watch the newsletter for our next meeting date.


Macon 4-H Beekeepers

This month we will meet on Wednesday July 12th and Wednesday July 20th at 5:30.

4-H Market Lamb Club

See our above schedule in the livestock clinic area.  Our dates are July 13th  and July 27th at the Fairgrounds. 

WHEP (Wildlife Habitat Educational Program)

Our meeting dates are July 11th and July 24th.  Activity details to follow.
