Family & Consumer Sciences
Cooking Demonstrations & More
As summer is in full swing the Family and Consumer Sciences Department is working to help residents young and old prepare healthy food safely for these warm months. Anyone can watch as we do live cooking demonstrations on the first Tuesday of every month at 10 am. Learn a new skill, find a new recipe and enjoy the fun bits of educational information that go along with each recipe we prepare. In June we prepared Basil, Shrimp, and Tomato Pasta and discussed how to purchase local fish and add fish to your diet on a budget. This video can still be viewed on the Camden Extension YouTube Page. If you don’t want to miss our make sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notifications of when we go live!

Olivia, the Family, and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent assisted with summer camp by teaching several young ladies how to safely handle food and how to handle a knife. Participants even created apple swans using the knife skills they learned.

As things begin to look a little more like normal the family and consumer sciences department held their second hybrid virtual and in-person cooking class. While in-person attendance was low all registered participants joined us live to learn how to prepare local seafood. A total of 13 participants logged on to the virtual workshop to expand their knowledge of seafood preparation.
