Mid and Late season Scouting tips for Cotton and Soybeans

Several sites in the area monitor corn earworm moth flights from corn to Cotton and soybeans. As expected, numbers started to climb in late July. Please see the trap data for more information.

This past week, I have been sweeping and using the beat cloth in several cotton and soybean fields.

Soybeans: We have not found corn earworms, Kudzu bugs, or stink bugs at threshold levels in soybeans. We have seen a few Beet Armyworms, Velvetbean Caterpillars, and loopers. I have seen some Frogeye along with Brown spot. As the major flight took place over the weekend and into Monday and Tuesday, soybeans should be scouted weekly for egg hatch. Please read the attached Mid and Late season Scouting tips for Soybeans.

Cotton: We found several plant bug nymphs, but not at threshold levels. Some Stink Bug was also observed. However, we saw several abscised squares, making me want to spray to avoid future damage. Adult plant bugs move in and out of the field, but immatures can do a lot of damage in an area of the field. Please read the attached Mid and Late season Scouting tips for Cotton
