September is National Preparedness Month. The Ready Campaignโs 2023 National Preparedness Month theme is โTake Control in 1, 2, 3โ. The campaign will focus on preparing older adults for disasters. We know older adults can face greater risks when it comes to the multitude of extreme weather events and emergencies we now face, especially if they are living alone, are low-income, have a disability, or live in rural areas.

On Saturday, August 12, almost two hundred 4-Hers from WNC met at the Polk County Gun Club for the West Region 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament. This is a qualifying tournament for the NC 4-H State Shooting Sports Tournament to be held in Ellerbe on September 30.
On Saturday, August 19, two McDowell 4-Hers saw their hard work come to fruition as they competed against youth from all over WNC in the 2nd Annual WNC Pullet Project.
