#4-H STEMSpark Series 


Dr. Mo will be leading an exploration into the world of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) at the Mary Alice Warren Community Center in Lewisville on Saturday, September 30 from 10 a.m. to noon. There is no fee to attend, however, registration is highly encouraged to make sure enough supplies will be available.

The third annual Forsyth Fun Fest will be held on Saturday, September 23 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the Health and Human Services Campus, 799 N. Highland Ave.

Sunday, September 24th from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Maize S. Woodruff Center

(4905 Lansing Drive, Winston-Salem, NC, US 27105), experience an afternoon of fun, exploration, and learning for you and your family at the Fall Festival!

4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Training


There will be a 4-H Shooting Sports training on Saturday, October 28, at the Eastern 4-H Center. Adults must be approved 4-H Volunteers. Registration closes on October 12. Please contact Anika Parks, aparks3@ncsu.edu or 336-703-2848 if you are interested in attending or learning more.

*We are in need of a location with at least 20 acres where the property owner is willing to allow a 4-H shooting sports team to practice. The land owner should also sign-up to become an approved 4-H Volunteer, unless the property is a public business. 

Emerging NC Pork Leaders


High school juniors and seniors (and college students) are invited to apply for the Emerging NC Pork Leaders program. The application deadline is September 18.  All expenses will be paid by the NC Pork Council. Learn more and apply here

Pickin' in the Pines (for adults)


The fifth annual bluegrass and BBQ benefit concern for Millstone 4-H Center will be held on October 21 in Ellerbee, NC. The first band hits the stage at 4:30 p.m., but there will be an open bluegrass jam at 3 p.m.  Junior Sisk is the headline for the event. The Axe Handlers will also be performing. 


Funds raised help provide scholarships for youth to attend camp.

Fair Update 


Carolina Classic Fair

The dates for the 2023 Carolina Classic Fair are September 29 - October 8.  View the premium book at https://carolinaclassicfair.com/competitive-entries/


Look for 4-H booths in the Education Building, Decorated Christmas trees in the Yesterday Village, the Extension Master Gardeners in the Flower Building, and more.

  • Monday, October 2 bring 3 school supplies and receive free admission courtesy of Deer Park Spring Water.  Extension staff will be working School Days in the Horticulture Building from 9 a.m. to Noon. and in the Yesterday Village.

  • Wednesday, October 4 is Special Ed Day/Can Food Day w/Crisis Control Ministry - bring 5 nonperishable food items for free admission. 

  • Thursday, October 5 – Military Day/College Day/Night Ticket Special: Free Admission for Military with ID and their immediate family; $5 Admission for College students with their ID

  • Friday, October 6 – Family Fun Day Ticket Special: Kids 11 and under Free until 6 pm

Mrs. April plans to be in the sheep, swine, goat barn (aka the Farmer's Market) the first weekend, Monday, and Thursday, and in the beef cattle barn the second weekend. Stop by and say "hey"! 


Special Livestock Show-Registration due by Sept. 22

School-age youth that meets the "Individuals with Disabilities Education Act", or IDEA as identified in 300.8 are eligible to borrow a dairy goat and/or a beef heifer from a livestock exhibitor to show in the Special Livestock Show at the Carolina Classic Fair on Saturday, October 7. Youth must register by September 22 to receive prizes and free admission to the fair. This event is free and is sponsored by the Carolina Classic Fair and Forsyth County Farm Bureau.


Youth should register at https://go.ncsu.edu/SpecialLivestock. Please share with youth that may qualify for our Special Livestock Show!


NC State Fair

The NC State Fair dates are October 12-22, 2023. 


We will once again have the opportunity to staff the 4-H sections this year.  I will be sending specific information shortly regarding signing up to register for those time slots.  Those working will receive free admission to the State Fair during their volunteer shift.
