Grants for WNC Family Farms


Over the last two decades, WNC AgOptions has distributed more than $3.5 million to farmers in western North Carolina who are diversifying their operations. AgOptions recipients have used their grant awards to strengthen their farm businesses, making them better positioned to face unexpected challenges, such as the pandemic and recent weather-related disasters.  WNC AgOptions grant cycle is now OPEN!

Sourwood Honey Tasting Contest

Who loves taste testing sourwood honey? On October 12, 6:30 pm, Keeper’s Cut Meadery, 175 W. Henderson St., the public is invited to sample sourwood honey from across the McDowell County. You will then vote for the best tasting sourwood honey.

Small Ruminant Producer Opportunities

Join us at 6 p.m. on October 5, at the McDowell Senior Center, 100 Spaulding Rd. Marion to learn more about the Small Ruminant Producers Club. This meeting is open to anyone interested in learning more about small ruminants. You do not have to own animals to join this meeting.

Lake James Cleanup

The N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell County Center “Keep McDowell Beautiful” program will be coordinating the annual Lake James Cleanup on Saturday, October 7 from 8 a.m. to noon. We invite everyone to remove litter from Lake James and its shoreline.
