Upcoming Events

Farm City Week, November, 22-29

Thank you to our Farmers!!!!  Farm-City week is generally celebrated the week leading up to Thanksgiving.  Celebrate by thanking a farmer this month.  That is exactly what childcares across Moore County did this year when they celebrated NC Crunch on October 18th.  Almost 300 kids and adults crunched into apples at 12:00pm and wrote thank you notes to farmers.  We want to thank all of our farmers that have helped with the Farm to Early Childcare Program over the past two years.  NC State used USDA funds to study how to incorporate local foods into childcare sites in a handful of counties across the state, including Moore.  Some childcares grew beautiful gardens and some purchased at local farmers markets and stands.  Thank you to Karefree Produce, Johnson’s Produce, and White Hill Farms to help make Farm to ECE a reality in Moore County.  Thank you to the Partnership for Children and Families for taking on this project.  NC State Extension has created numerous resources for Farm to ECE.  Don’t stop growing and eating locally.

Goldenrod Goodness

A recent trip to Slow Farm in Cameron, North Carolina revived an interest in a plant that I feel I have somewhat overlooked. Goldenrod (Solidago sp., is a fascinating and useful plant for so many reasons. At Slow Farm, they use the plant to make different products, one of which is a tea made from the dried leaves.
