PROJECT RECORD BOOK (PRB) WORKSHOP & PIZZA LUNCH

Nov 7 | 11:30 - 2:30 | 2420 Tramway Road | RSVP

________________________________

Why do a project record book (PRB)? 4-H teaches life skills, project record books give 4-Hers a chance to represent themselves in the written form. This is an important life skill. This book becomes a record of accomplishments that can be used when applying for scholarships, creating a resume, or applying for college admission.

What is the PRB? Here is a list of project categories available but in short it is a record of what the 4-Her did in the year 2023 on a specific project.

Each 4-Her can turn in as many PRB as they want. The county will select two books/subject category/age category to compete at District/State. Some categories have prize money or trips associated with it.

Sally Cabrera, Lee County 4-H'er AND NC 4-H Secretary/Treasurer is hosting this workshop. She will go over the PRB process and then allow time for you to workshop your 2023 books. She says, "Project record books offer a great opportunity and learning experience for 4-Hers to review and compile their year into a book to submit for a chance to win awards. Though starting one may seem intimidating, it can be a easy and fun process with this workshop as we break down what a project record book is and how to complete one."

Lee County 4-H will have pizza and drinks after the presentation and then 4-Hers are invited to work on the books. Several times throughout the workshop we will have door prize drawings. Attendees will receive an official 4-H PRB cover.

Bring to the workshop: Computer (or pen/pencils), 2023 calendar of activities, photos of project progression

Parents can stay or drop off but remain in texting contact in case your child has questions.

STATE YOUTH COUNCIL

Information meeting | Nov 1 | 4:30 | 2420 Tramway Road | RSVP

________________________________

Why does Lee County need a youth council? The simplest answer to this question is, to meet the needs of youth in the community. The next logical question is, What are the needs of youth and how does the youth council meet these needs? To answer this question, we must realize that adults alone are incapable of meeting the needs of youth without the help of the youth themselves. The whole philosophy behind a youth council is that it is youth-directed.

The Youth Council is successful because it offers responsibility and challenge, to find ways to present old ideas that must be passed from one generation to another. It shows respect for intelligent, talented youths' ability to lead themselves.

The two main goals of the Lee County Chapter are to attend County Commissioner Meetings and decided on, select, plan, and complete a project in Lee County that will have a positive effect on youths in the county. I am looking for 9th-11th graders to represent their school and other youths in the county on this Lee County Committee.

The Partnership for Children and Families is looking for donations for the Happy Bottoms Bank. Your club could do a diaper drive. From Kristy Arey the executive director, "We appreciate any contribution and please let us know if your service club, church, or friends would like to donate supplies, or host a drive for us.  Thank you in advance for supporting this great project. We are proud of the impact we have been able to make in just a few short years. If you would like to support this project you can order supplies HERE. Sizes 5, 6 and 7 are the highest need, but we provide newborn size through pull ups if available.  We also provide wipes if we have them to give. Conservatively, it costs approximately $18,000 to run this program annually and we serve on average 7 families per month.    On average it costs a family $70 per month, per child just in diapers.  At HBB we provide each family with one pack of diapers per child and if we have them one package of wipes.
