Alexander County Livestock 4-H Club-meets 1st Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Location:  Alexander County Service Center

The Livestock Club met the first Monday in October at the NC Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center. Grace Iversen talked about tractor pulling and showed her father’s pulling tractor. We plan to go to a dairy farm in November. The time and date will be sent out at a later time. The Taylorsville House asked if anyone is interested to donate candy and fall flowers if possible.

Alexander County 4-H Garden Club-meets 1st Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m.  Location:  Alexander County Service Center

The 4H Garden Club met this past month to learn about how the beautiful fall colors appear in leaves! Did you know that most of those fall colors are actually in the leaves year round? It turns out that once the dominant color (green- chlorophyll) is done producing sugars or food for the trees, it breaks down, fading to show the pretty yellows and oranges! Unlike the other colors that always exist in the leaf, red is actually produced as the green color of chlorophyll breaks down.  The kids also used a variety of fall colored leaves to make their own “natural stained glass” to hang on their windows!!

Southern Grace 4-H Club-meets 3rd Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m.  Location:  Alexander County Service Center (They are not accepting new members at this time.)

The Southern Grace 4-H Club was not able to meet in October.

Shockers 4-H Electric Club-meets 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Location:  Alexander County Service Center

The Shockers Club met in October and completed a soldering project to construct a continuity tester.  Members assisted with the Apple Peeling Contest at the Taylorsville Apple Festival.  The club is also collecting items for the dialysis clinic in Taylorsville and will be collecting items until the week of Thanksgiving.  Please drop off items at the NC Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center.  Our next meeting will be November 21.

Whisk it Up 4-H Cooking Club-meets 4th Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m. Location:  Alexander County Service Center
Whisk it up club, in collaboration with the Taylorsville Apple Festival, decorated apples for the Kids Decorated Apple Contest. We had a total of 9 entries and two of our 4-H youth had their apples placed! Huge congratulations to Makayla Dillion and Sydney Holcomb for winning 2nd and 3rd place.
