Extension News Currituck County

January 2024

From the Director

I love taking the opportunity to reflect on the previous twelve months during the new year. I was very excited (though not at all shocked) to learn that the amazing team at NC Cooperative Extension in Currituck continued to grow and expand the depth and breadth of opportunities offered to citizens in 2023. Overall, 504 classes were offered to Currituck citizens and visitors. Face to face technical assistance was offered to over 1300 citizens on topics ranging from lawns and gardens to youth development and food safety. The overall economic impact of Extension work in Currituck County for 2023 was just under $2 million. N.C. Cooperative Extension of Currituck County volunteers donated 5520 hours at a value of just over $165,000 or four additional full time employees over the course of the year. I look forward to sharing more specifics with you in the coming months. Plan now, to attend our annual "Report to the People!"

Variety Trial Data

This past year, Currituck County Extension Staff partnered with Barco Brother's Farms to produce the Currituck Corn Variety Trial.  We also partnered with the Garrett family to produce the Currituck Soybean Variety Trial.  The data from these experiments are shared with farmers across the region to help them make profitable agriculture decisions for the upcoming cropping season.  Check out the results!
