Project Record Books

It's time to start getting your 4-H Project Record Books completed!!!

Project books due:  February 20, 2024

What is a 4-H Project Record Book?
A 4-H project record book is a compilation of all of a 
4-Her's work in a given year regarding a specific topic.

Who does a 4-H Project Record Book?
All 4-Her's are welcome and encouraged to do this!!! The age divisions for competition are    5-7, 8-10,11-12,13-15, and 16-18.

Project books are required to go to some events like the annual Electric Congress.

Alexander County 4-H will be taking a group to the Eastern 4-H Center for a weeklong camp this summer.  June 16-21, 2024 will be the dates for this camp.  If you are interested and need more information please contact DJ Salyer at dj_salyer@ncsu.edu or call 828-632-3125.
4-H Presentations

4-H Presentations are a huge part of North Carolina 4-H. It is one of the most successful ways to help a young person learn how to do a public speech. It focuses on members teaching others what they know about a particular project/subject matter. They are sometimes called demonstrations or illustrated talk or formal speech.

South Central District Activity Day will be held June 18, 2024 in Scotland County.

Alexander County 4-H Clubs

Now is a great time to get involved with 4-H Clubs in Alexander County.  Below is a list of our active clubs at this time.  If you are looking for a club and need more information please contact the 4-H Office at 828-632-3125.
Alexander County Livestock 4-H Club-meets 1st Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Location:  Alexander County Service Center

Met on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 7p.m. Their club report from this meeting will be in the March newsletter.

Alexander County 4-H Garden Club-meets 2nd Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m.  Location:  Alexander County Service Center

The 4H Garden Club will not be meeting the months of November, December or January.  They will meet again on Thursday, February 8 at 5:30 p.m.

 
Southern Grace 4-H Club-meets 3rd Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m.  Location:  Alexander County Service Center (They are not accepting new members at this time.)

The Southern Grace 4-H Club met in January to make marbled paper with shaving cream and food coloring.  This pretty paper was then used to make cards and garlands.  Members used sewing machines to stitch the designs together.  

 
Shockers 4-H Electric Club-meets 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Location:  Alexander County Service Center

The Shockers Club met in January and discussed project record books and conducted an experiment to see if a lime could generate an electrical charge.  This experiment is an example of bio-power.

Their next meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 20th at 6:30 p.m.

 
Whisk it Up 4-H Cooking Club-meets 4th Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m. Location:  Alexander County Service Center
Whisk it Up 4-H members met in January to learn more about 4-H presentations.  Der Holcomb, Family and Consumer Science Agent, presented a demonstration on how to make french toast.  This gave members an idea on how to present and what to work on when they prepare to present their 4-H presentations.   Their next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 22 at 4:00 p.m.  Please notify Ave Icenhour or call the 4-H office at 828-632-4451 if you plan to attend space is limited for this 4-H Club.
 
WHEP ( Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program) - meets last Wednesday of the month at 4:00pm Location:  Alexander County Service Center

The Whep Team met with local wildlife biologists on January 4th and spent the day on Pisgah National Forrest and Johns River Game Land. We were able to see several projects going on and many BMP's in action. The date for the State contest has been released !!  We will be going to the Foothills Equestrian Nature Center in Tryon, NC on Saturday May 4th !!

The WHEP team will meet again on February 28th at 4pm.
ALL 4-H members and volunteers MUST be enrolled in 4-H Online to participate in any programs or clubs that are provided by Alexander County 4-H.

If you have any questions regarding enrollment or need help with enrollment please contact DJ Salyer at 828-632-3125.  Again, no child or volunteer can participate in 4-H events without being enrolled.
