A Successful Open House!

We’re excited to report a successful Open House event on February 15th, with over 100 people in attendance! We're grateful to the 20+ Extension Community Partners onsite with resource tables, consisting of local public and nonprofit organizations with whom we work closely. Empanada Grill provided delicious empanadas for our event and Minerva's Mobile Health UNCG provided free health services and demonstrations. Our Digital Skills Agent facilitated a workshop on social media and politics. And who can forget Ray F. Sun, the mascot for the NC Summer Nutrition Program for Kids! If you missed this great event we’ll see you at our next Open House in September 2024! More details and photos can be found on our social media.Β

Seeds to Share

Our annual Seeds to Share event took place over two weekends in February, championed by our Community & School Gardens Agent, Crystal Mercer. A big thanks to High Point Public Library for hosting the event on the second weekend and to the volunteers who helped make the two days successful, including the Extension Master Gardener volunteers of Guilford County. Though Seeds to Share has ended, if you are a community or school gardener in need of seeds, please reach out to our Community & School Gardens Agent, Crystal, who distributes seeds year-round.

4-H Achievement Night at the Lindley Park Recreation Center.

Annual 4-H Achievement Night

Guilford County 4-H hosted their annual Achievement Night at Lindley Park on February 23rd. Youth and Volunteers spent the evening socializing with people outside their own clubs and celebrating the year's achievements. Recognition was given to all volunteers and for youth involved in project record books, offices held, and club activities. We were joined by Dr. Shannon Wiley from NC A&T State University who welcomed our 4-Hers and Volunteers as well as leading the 4-H pledge. Our team is excited to see what Guilford County 4-H can accomplish in the coming year.Β

Other 4-H Happenings 🍀

4-H hosted two workshops for NC 4-H volunteers during their annual conference. Guilford County 4-H Agents Sarah and Meredith presented a workshop on Trauma-Informed Practices for Youth and Meredith presented a workshop on LEGO Robotics with Toni Newby, 4-H Agent in Bladen County.

4-H also partnered with Guilford County Family Justice Center for a STEM Workshop on Saturday, 02/17. Participants built a LEGO vehicle and coded their creations to move.

Horticulture - Tools for the Trade

Consumer Horticulture hosted their first ever Tools of the Trade Seminar in early February. We had just over 50 people spend 3 hours with Horticulture Staff learning about tool identification, maintenance, cleaning, and sharpening. Demonstrations were followed by practice in the Demonstration Garden. This program will be expanded upon and offered again.
