Grow and Graze Onsite Chat Sessions

The N.C. Cooperative Extension, Cherokee County Center staff will be hosting onsite chat sessions at the Hanging Dog General Store (10:00 AM) and Nantahala Regional Library (2:00 PM) on the following dates for about an hour. The dates and topics are as follows:

March 18th: Soil Sampling and Soil Health

April 15th: Garden Growing Resources

May 24th: Customer Appreciation Day at Hanging Dog General Store, Web Resources at Nantahala Regional Library

June 17th: Deer Management in the Garden

Please come and join us. The sessions are free, informal and no registration is required.

Cherokee County 4-H has not had a new needs assessment survey in five years so to better understand the needs of Cherokee County youth and families we have created a new Youth Needs Assessment Survey. Since the COVID-19 pandemic things have changed from how programs are delivered, how we need to be marketing programs to families, and what program topics are now of greatest interest to and needed by county youth. We would greatly appreciate it if you would share this link with other Cherokee County youth, parents, nonprofits, or anyone else that interacts regularly with youth in a formal or informal capacity.

Cherokee County Senior Center Computer Classes Beginning in March!
Join us each Tuesday in March at [TIME] in the Penland Senior Center in Murphy for generalized computer assistance. Macintosh laptops will be provided to use during the class! Bring your burning questions and get excited to learn!

Cherokee County 4-H Clubs and How to Join!!!!
We currently have four active 4-H Clubs here in Cherokee County. All of our clubs are open to youth ages 5-18 except for our Cherokee on the Fly 4-H Club. It is open to grades 6-12. Check out the meeting dates and enroll in one of our great 4-H clubs here in Cherokee County. Youth do not have to have animals or know how to tie fly’s in order to join our clubs. All of our 4-H clubs are free to enroll in. To enroll NC 4-HOnline Enrollment System or for help 4-H Online Enrollment Help.

Cherokee County Seed Library, Now Open!

Located at the Nantahala Regional Library in Murphy, the Cherokee County Center Seed Library offers free seeds to locals that are interested in growing their own food. The library offers flowers, vegetables and herbs.
