Canning is a safe, economical way to preserve quality food at home. Canning interrupts the normal spoiling and decaying cycle of food. This is done by heating the food contained in a home canning jar and closing it with a two-piece vacuum sealing cap. Canning homegrown foods can save you half the cost of buying commercially canned food. Canning your favorite and special products to be enjoyed by family and friends is a fulfilling experience and a source of pride for many people!

This workshop will focus on the water bath canning technique. Participants will learn how to safely process and can their own strawberry jam using the water bath canning technique.

FCS Intern Finishes the Semester Strong

FCS has an intern; Kaitlyn Shelton, from UNCG’s Department of Public Health Education for the Spring 2024 semester. Here’s what she has to say about her internship experience so far:
“I have had a wonderful time at the Extension office while doing my internship this semester. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet our clients in the community while teaching classes or doing outreach. Everyone here is so passionate about their work in Guilford County and are some of the nicest people you will interact with. I am so grateful for the opportunities I have had with FCS because of my own passion for nutrition and community education.”
