This week, I had the delightful pleasure of attending the annual Corolla Extension and Community Associationβs High Tea and Fashion Show fundraiser. It was an elegant soiree where sipping tea and watching locals model the latest in beachwear was transformed into a noble cause. While it seems high society and glamorous, there was a heartwarming purpose behind it all.
The mission of the North Carolina Extension and Community Association (Corolla ECA is a chapter of NC ECA) is to strengthen families and communities through leadership development, community action and educational support. They are a volunteer affiliate group of NC Cooperative Extension. Our Corolla chapter has developed quite the cadre of leaders that are passionate about strengthening the Currituck community and helping our residents in need.
From their contributions to the Currituck 4-H Backpacks for Kids program to the provision of scholarships facilitating youth participation in 4-H camps and leadership seminars, their impact is profound and far-reaching. Their assistance to the Currituck Department of Social Services, involvement in Operation Santa, and aid to senior citizens through food provisions among many other efforts shows their heart for the needy in our community. They support efforts local to Corolla like the Waterβs Edge Village School, Fire and EMS and Corolla Chapelβs efforts to assist international student workers.
Beyond financial support, the Corolla Extension and Community Association are workers that are not afraid to get their hands dirty! They organize roadside cleanup in Corolla and have held drives to collect essential items for the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina. They epitomize the mission of the NC Extension and Community Association and I couldnβt let the opportunity pass to recognize them for all the hard work and good they do in our community. Kudos and thank you!
