Vignette Coffee Roasters Interview Part 1

Coffee & Community: Vignette Coffee Roasters

About 3 years ago, now Co-owner of Vignette Coffee Roasters, Michael Harwood, reached out to the N.C. Cooperative Extension Guilford County Center to gather information on what it would look like to place a coffee roastery in Greensboro. Family & Consumer Sciences Agent, Vincent Webb, helped him by sharing the NCDA regulation resources and information on the layout of the county and where he might find success in the placement of the roaster. Fast forward to 2024 and Vignette is thriving as a community staple and bragging right for Guilford County Coffee lovers. Co-Founders and Co-Owners Michael Harwood and Mandy Spirito deliver their beans to five or more local coffee shops in Guilford County, have built partnerships nationwide, and currently ship their beans to multiple places throughout the United States. Watch this interview conducted by N.C. Cooperative Extension staff to learn more about the owners and their connection with Extension.

Share the Harvest 2024 is Underway!

Share the Harvest is a an all-volunteer non-profit agency that works with community gardens, home gardeners, and local farmers to collect excess fresh produce which we share with community agencies to feed our neighbors in Guilford County. The N.C. Cooperative Extension Guilford County Center is one of the dropoff sites for produce donations, as seen above. Click here for more information on participating in Share the Harvest this season. To learn more about local leadership involved in Share the Harvest, watch the video on our website!

Food Security Update

Beverly, Food Security Program Assistant, caught hard at work!

Beverly has been working on a Community Food Strategies Whole Measures β€œcommunity snapshot” as a way to organize data about Guilford County citizens, community resources, and other measurable indicators of how well our food system currently works. Over time, this data will shift and we can see how the strength of our food system changes as the new data measures are reported. Read more about the Community Food Strategies model here: Baseline Assessment Toolkit - Community Food Strategies.
