Canning with Cooperative Extension Green Beans
Canning is a safe, economical way to preserve quality food at home. Canning interrupts the normal spoiling and decaying cycle of food. This is done by heating the food contained in a home canning jar and closing it with a two-piece vacuum sealing cap. Canning homegrown foods can save you half the cost of buying commercially canned food. Canning your favorite and special products to be enjoyed by family and friends is a fulfilling experience and a source of pride for many people!

This workshop will focus on pressure canning technique.

Chef and the Child
It is time for Chef and Child Foundation activities in Guilford County. Join us as we fight childhood hunger by working hands-on with children at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Guilford County Center. Chef and Child Foundation is the Charitable Branch of the American Culinary Federation that fights childhood hunger through education, fundraising, training, and crisis intervention. We focus on assisting children from the 8-12-year-old age group. These kids have a great time cooking with the chefs and makes for a great opportunity for kids to learn things such as knife safety, following a recipe, and various cooking techniques.

Community Partner Corner
Vignette Coffee Roasters, a local coffee roastery located off of I-40 on Market Street co-founded by partners Michael Harwood and Mandy Spirito is thriving in Greensboro. Vignette has become a staple in the community and has built a reputation as the coffee expert in Guilford County and beyond. They’ve laid the foundation of what it means to source beans from growers around the world ethically and equitably while building trusted relationships with their growers. Whenever I visit their roastery I can ask questions about each grower and learn about their story and who I may be supporting if I purchase the coffee beans. Meaningful, mutually beneficial partnerships are at the bottom of every Vignette cup.
Meet our NC State Extension Summer Intern
Hello everyone! My name is Sarah Farlee and I am the new summer intern at Guilford County Cooperative Extension! I am originally from Reidsville, NC but relocated to Greensboro a few years ago where my parents and I expanded our goat operation. I graduated from NC A&T last summer with my Bachelors in Animal Science with a concentration in Animal Industry. I am working towards my Masters in Agricultural Education with a concentration in Professional Service! I will graduate in December so I hope this internship helps me determine my next step! I look forward to working with Guilford County Extension this summer and learning what they do behind the scenes!
