4-H Summer Fun - Activities

It is time for summer fun.  Here are some June and July activities in addition to our regular club meetings. Please join us to explore and learn about the world around us.  Look at the description of each of these activities and then sign up with this link.

Visit the WNC Nature Center

Monday June 10th
Ages 5-18
$8.00 for kids, $12 for adults
First 10 to sign up can ride county van


Let’s Go Wild at the WNC Nature Center! We will learn about over 60 species of native mountain animals, including river otter, black bear, red and gray wolf, and barn owl! Bring a lunch and we will spend the day exploring and learning about the wildlife that is so special to our area.

Gem Mining

Let’s go gem mining at Mason Mountain Mine.  You may strike it rich!  Mine for gems and stones in the morning and then join us for lunch at the Extension Office. We will have lunch with a geologist who will tell us all about the rock formations in our mountains and about the stones you found.

Campfire Cooking

We will travel to Standing Indian Camp Ground for a fun day of enjoying the outdoors while learning how to cook on an open fire. We will learn all about safely starting a fire, about how to pack food to travel outdoors and will cook a great meal on a campfire.  During our visit, we will learn how to identify different types of trees in our mountains.

Wednesday June 26th at Standing Indian Campground
Ages: 5-8 with parent, 9-18
can ride the van (first 10 to sign up)
Cost: $5.00
What to bring: camp chair, outdoor clothing, bug spray, water bottle and drink for lunch

4-H Advanced Sewing Project

Tuesday June 25th from 1:00-4:00pm

This class is for our current Advanced Sassy Stitchers group.  We will make an advanced project.  We have bunches of fun fabric to choose from but if you want to bring your own fabric, please call Tammara to sign up and for instructions before the class.

Make Sure You Re-enroll

Please make sure you have re-enrolled for 2024.  If you have questions, please call Tammara at 828-349-2046.

We still have 1 boy  age 11 - 13 and 1 girl age 11 - 16 camp space available for July 21 - 26 at Fur Fish and Game Camp.  Please call Tammara if you are interested.

We have $250 scholarships available for this week. 
Club Corner
Macon Mountain Goats 4-H Club

The MMG will have a service project this month with the schools summer program.  Please watch your facebook group for requests for help from Ms. Kara and Ms. Cindy
Macon Archers

We will meet at the 4-H Archery Range on Thursday June 6th,13th, 20th, and 27th.  First years shoot between 5:00 - 6:00 and older shooters from 6:00 - 7:00pm.  If you are interested in joining archery, please call Tammara for an orientation time.
Macon Sharp Shooters

We will shoot two times this month.  Our meeting dates will be on Saturday June 8th and 22th.  We are meeting at the Sheriff's Range on Radio Hill at 9:00am.  Please call if you need more information.

Budding Chefs and Top Chefs


Budding Chefs and Top Chefs are combining efforts this month and will meet on Wednesday June 12th to make a Red, White and Blue cake
that will impress all of your family and friends over the 4th of July holiday.  Please come join us at 3:45 to learn a fun recipe.
Sassy Stitchers

Sassy Stitchers will be off for the summer - advanced sewers please look at the activity above on June 25th with Ms. Vicki.


Macon 4-H Beekeepers

This month we will meet on Wednesday June 5th at the Cooperative Extension Office due to weather and Wednesday June 19th  in the bee-yard.  Both will be at 5:30.

4-H Market Lamb Club

Lamb families - are you ready?   Our first clinic will be on Thursday June 6th and then again on June 20th.  Eat at 6:00pm and our clinic will start at 7:00pm. 

WHEP
(Wildlife Habitat Educational Program)


We had a fun time in May fishing and kayaking.  This month our activity will be to go the the WNC Nature Center.  We have a special donation to offset WHEP club members entrance fees for the Nature Center.  Please give Tammara a call if you interested in going on the 10th.
4-H Livestock Judging

The livestock judging team will be meeting for 1/2 day farm visits every Thursday in June from 12:00 - 5:00pm.  Please call Joe for any questions.  In July, the first practice will be on Wednesday July 3rd instead of the 4th.  Please put it on your calendar.
