I hope you and your family are having a wonderful summer! We are in the middle of the busy summer months of 4-H world and there are lots of things happening!

This time of the year is extremely busy and I am not always at my desk or in the office. The best way to contact me is via email at laura_allen@ncsu.edu. Feel free to call the office, but it may take longer to get back to you.

4-HOnline is OPEN for 2024 enrollment! If you have not enrolled your child yet, please get this done ASAP. They cannot participate in 2024 until they are enrolled.

If you ever need to update or make changes, login to 4-HOnline and try to. If you cannot, then please to submit any changes to the 4-H Agent at laura_allen@ncsu.edu so we can update it in 4-HOnline.

Upcoming Meetings

County Council: for youth ages 12-18 years old as of January 1

**If your child is 12-18 as of Jan 1 and they are interested in County Council, please email Laura to get on the County Council email list for all reminders and updates for this group!

-Next County Council meeting:

-We will NOT meet in July as many of us will be together for 4-H Congress this month.


PALS:
These meetings are for any parent, alumni, leader or supporter of Rowan County
4-H. If you are interested in 4-H or new to 4-H, you are invited to attend these meetings as well! Please come share your ideas for 4-H and help us find ways to support Rowan County 4-H.

Next meeting: August 27, 2024 at 6:15 PM at the Extension office for annual in-person training & a meal. Be on the lookout for an email with information about how to RSVP!

The following Rowan County 4-H’ers participated in 4-H Presentations at District Activity Day in Scotland County on June 18:


Gold:

Careers & Entrepreneurship, 8-10 year olds: Luke Allen
Horticulture Science, 8-10 year olds: Ada Waller
Safety, 8-10 year olds: Natalie Weeder
Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, 14-18 year olds: Nathan Croyle
**Gold winners will receive a monetary award.

Silver:
Poultry Production/Preparation, 8-10 year olds: Maggie Deal
Livestock & Dairy Production, 14-18 year olds: Samantha Simon
Open Class, 14-18 year olds: Lucas Weeder

Participation:
Science & Technology, 14-178 year olds: David Croyle

Cloverbud participation (5-7 year olds who are non-competition):
Sadie Allen

All Gold and Silver winners move on to compete at the State Presentation Finals held on July 23 in Raleigh, NC.

During District Activity Day, there was also a 4-H Entertains portion, which is a talent showcase. Elise Budzisch played her guitar while singing a rendition of Rascal Flatts “Bless the Broken Road”. She earned a blue ribbon.


Rowan 4-H recently received the results from the district competition for 4-H Project Record Books. The youths who were recognized at the district level for their project record books based on the 2023 calendar year include:

Gold:
Nathan Croyle, Family & Consumer Sciences, 13-15 year olds
John Tucker, Plant Science, 8-10 year olds
**Gold winners will receive a monetary award.

Silver:
Luke Allen, Plant Science 8-10 year olds
John Tucker, Science & Technology, 8-10 year olds

Bronze:
Sarah Tucker, Communication Arts, 8-10 year olds

Participation/Not Ranked:
David Croyle, Science & Technology, 13-15 year olds

Lynlee Propst, Animal Science, 8-10 year olds

15 youth attended 4-H Camp with Rowan County 4-H at Millstone 4-H Camp on June 23-28. It was a great week. Check out our Rowan County 4-H Program Facebook page for lots of pictures!

Do you have Medicaid? If so, your policy most likely gives a $10-$75 voucher to be used towards youth activities, and 4-H should qualify! Please check into this for your family!

NC 4-H HORSE ARTISTIC EXPRESSION COMPETITION:

Contest categories & rules can be found here (use pages 147-163). If you are not a part of the Happy Trails 4-H Club, please contact the 4-H Agent for some additional information (please contact her before you enter online).

All of the entries (which were due online by June 1) MUST be brought to the 4-H Agent at the Extension office no later than 5 PM on Monday, July 1, 2024.
 
Are you interested in NC 4-H Livestock opportunities (livestock judging, skillathon, quizbowl)?

The South Central District 4-H Fall Day (Volunteer Training) will be held in ROWAN COUNTY on Saturday, November 2!

Rowan 4-H Volunteer Reporting for 2024

If you are registered as a 4-H Volunteer in 4-HOnline it is super important that you report your hours and contacts! This greatly assists Laura with her Extension reports every year, since your hours and contacts must be reported!

Please go to go.ncsu.edu/2024monthly4hreportrowan and complete your reports. Reports are due 10 days after the end of each month (January contacts due by Feb. 10). Email reminders will be sent to those who should be completing reports. It should only take about 5 minutes!
