District Activity Day Winners
In June, 4-H'ers traveled to Scotland County to take part in the South Central District Activity Day. Youth worked hard and perfected their presentations for the district competition. We're excited to announce that every participant from Catawba County returned home with either a silver or gold medal. The gold and silver winners have the opportunity to advance to the state presentation competition. We eagerly anticipate witnessing our Catawba County 4-H participants shine as they compete in Raleigh for the state competition on July 23rd.

Pressure Canner Testing

Many families will be preserving fresh garden produce during the summer months. If you will be canning, it is recommended to have your pressure canner tested each year to make sure the gauge is working properly. Did you know that Cooperative Extension provides FREE testing of your pressure canner gauge? To schedule a time to have your canner tested, contact Donna Mull at Cooperative Extension. You can also drop off the lid at the Extension Office and pick it up at a later time. The office is located on the 2nd floor of the Ag Resources Center in Newton. You should also check the rubber gasket to make sure it is still soft and not cracked to ensure a good seal and replace worn out gaskets as needed.

You can also Contact Donna Mull at the Extension Office for any canning and food preservation related questions at Donna_mull@ncsu.edu or
828-465-8240.
