Looking to the Future for Yancey County 4-H

Goodbyes are never easy, but they are part of life. Over the past four years as the 4-H Agent in Yancey County I have made countless memories and relationships with community members and I am so thankful for each of these experiences and opportunities. Unfortunately it is time for me to say goodbye and my last day as the 4-H Agent in Yancey County will be August 2nd. The power of 4-H programs to change the lives of youth is tremendous and throughout my time in Yancey County I have been able to see this impact first-hand.

4-H programs provide youth with hands-on learning opportunities such as learning about firearm safety, marksmanship and responsibility through the 4-H Shooting Sports program, or learning about animal science, commitment and developing self confidence through raising and showing livestock. 4-H programs give youth the life skills needed to succeed and improve their community and the world around them. Over the past four years, Yancey County 4-H has seen a 250% increase in 4-H member enrollment and a 275% increase in 4-H volunteer enrollment. Volunteers are the heart of 4-H and without their help, support and willingness to volunteer their time, the Yancey County 4-H program would not have seen such tremendous growth over the last few years!

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the Yancey County community, and I will cherish the memories I have made and hope to see the 4-H program continue to grow. Looking forward, the 4-H Program Assistant, Jazlyn Swain will be the point of contact for all 4-H related questions. She can be reached at jazlyn_swain@ncsu.edu or 828-682-6186.

Sincerely,

Jordan English
