The Great Southeast Pollinator Census in NC


The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is a wonderful opportunity to get outside, observe nature, & help contribute to valuable scientific research too! This research plays an important role in protecting our food supply!
On August 23 & 24, NC will be joining a multi-state effort to encourage residents to help protect the region’s vital pollinator population by helping to identify and count the pollinators present near where you live.

EmPOWERing Mountain Food Systems

EmPOWERing Mountain Food Systems is a project launched in 2019 to focus on expanded opportunities & capacity for food and farm businesses across western NC. We will be offering several classes through this initiative.

Now is the time to enter exhibits in the 2024 NC Mountain State Fair. The Pony Express provides transportation of Entries to and from McDowell County to the NC Mountain State Fair for judging and display.

McDowell 4-H Attends Summer Camp

McDowell 4-H took 13 youth to Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Camp in Reidsville in July. Campers spent their week learning about nature, canoeing, horseback riding, swimming, climbing & meeting kids from all over the state.
