2024 Apple Recipe Contest 

Do you have an amazing apple recipe? Put it to the test at the 2024 NC Apple Festival – Apple Recipe Contest. This event will be held on Friday, August 30th in the Historic Courthouse behind the Apple Festival Main Stage. Entry is free and there will be prizes for 1st and 2nd place in all categories, as well as a grand prize!

Savor the Moment as the evening unfolds with a locally-sourced banquet, meticulously prepared by the renowned Chef Michael Gilligan of Harvey’s @ The Henderson. Indulge in a meal that is as fresh as the morning dew, starting promptly at 6:00 PM.

Chef Michael Gilligan and the team at Harvey’s @ The Henderson will be providing dishes from locally grown meats and vegetables.

Stacy Fields from Raspberry Fields Farms and Mini Batch Bakery will provide non-alcoholic mocktails, drinks and desserts.

Kevin and Alicia Stump of Stump Farms will be supplying fresh veggies.

French Broad River Cattle Farm will supply the beef.

Charcuterie will be obtained from local vendors such as Hickory Nut Gap FarmsBlue Ridge Mountain Creamery and Round Mountain Creamery.

We are partnering with Advent Health – Laurel Park to offer free nutrition and cooking education classes. Eating the Mediterranean Way (or Med instead of Meds) is a research-based program focused on the Mediterranean pattern of eating, which has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic diseases and support overall health.

Plant Problems Related to Excessive Rain

This summer has been wet and that is taking its toll on some of our landscape plants. The N.C. Cooperative Extension, Henderson County Center team has fielded numerous calls from homeowners, many of them asking the same few questions: “Why is my plant dying,” or “Why is my tree dropping its leaves?” or “Why are my leaves curling?”
