The Northern Piedmont Grains Field Day was a Success!
Field Days are a useful tool in the Field Crops Program to share new research and get farmers excited about up and coming technology, management strategies, and university based recommendations. This year, N.C. Cooperative Extension hosted the Northern Piedmont Grains Field Day in partnership with NCDA&CS Oxford Tobacco Research Station. NC State faculty Drs. Rachel Vann, Ron Heiniger, David Suchoff, Charles Cahoon, LeAnn Lux, and OVT Director Ryan Heiniger did presentations on the research in the field at the station, as well as current issues that have been impacting growers this year. Dr. Heiniger in particular had a staggering demonstration on how drought conditions have impacted corn, and what we can learn from this unprecedented season. These types of
impactful educational programs are very hands-on, and allow growers to see real life situations where management practices have been applied. Sponsors for the event were also present, and had tables set up to network with the attending growers. Attendees were also surprised with an impromptu spray drone demonstration from one
of the program sponsors - White Ridge Ag.

The Farm to Fridge program has been booming with activity.
We have developed new partnerships with Working Landscapes/ByWay Foods out of Warrenton, N.C. who partners with local farmers and distributes the
produce boxes to food banks, food pantries, and other distributors such as schools and institutions. Food Lion of Hilltop Village also participates in the Farm to Fridge program donating weekly from their produce section. We attended their “rebranding” event this month.
Almost 2,000 pounds of food and many dozen eggs have been donated in the month of August.
