Additional Enrollment Information:
  • There are two ways to participate as a 4-H'er in North Carolina. You can be an enrolled member or you can be a program participant. The state has guide sheets for information about 4-H online.
  • Take a minute and edit your account to include all the topics in which your child is interested. Often community groups will contact me with a special interest mentoring offer. Right now the Lemon Springs ECA club wants to offer their skills to club members who may want to learn about web design, sewing, biscuit making, ect. When these opportunties present themselves I will search the members for folks who might be interested and contact you.

What projects are
4-H'ers working on
this year?
Looking at the current enrollment records, we have folks working on projects in the areas of Swine, Poultry, Electricity, Pets, Citizenship, Engineering, Cooking, Food Sciences, Career Exploration, Communication Skills, Aquatics, Butterflies, Character, Leadership, Money Management, Personal Development, Arts, Drama, Photography, Healthy Living, Archery, Hunting, Outdoor Adventure, Sewing, & Wildlife.
     In September Update Section 3 with your summer successes. Make a plan for those things you still want to do. Look over your other sections. Are there places you still need to work on? Make a plan to add to them.

     We had a special offer from the ladies of the Lemon Springs ECA Guild. They have looked over your project enrollments and would like to offer mentorships to you in the following areas:
* Reading Literacy
* Heritage
* Computer Science
* Cooking Safety

     They are willing to meet with you and offer assistance as you work through these project areas. For more information call us at 919-775-5624.

Let the Good Times Grow!
     Outside of religious holidays fair week is my favorite time of the year. After a disappointing 2020 we are returning to the fairgrounds and I just can't wait to LET THE GOOD TIMES GROW!

Club Spotlight
Crazy Quilters 4-H Club
      Karen and Pat, the volunteer club leaders for Crazy Quilters started the girls on their first indoor project in over a year. They began making quilted tote bags. In the August meeting seven members began the project by measuring and cutting out the fabric they had selected. Membership is open and meetings are monthly in the kitchen of the Ruby McSwain Education Building where the sewing machines are located.

NC 4-H Volunteer Training
Saturday, October 23, 2021
     North Carolina 4-H will host a FREE virtual training session on Saturday morning, October 23rd.  The training will be delivered over Zoom and is open to the first 200 volunteers who register!  For more information including the agenda and how to register, visit:


These sessions will not be recorded, so be sure to sign up and attend! Registration closes October 18th or when spaces are filled.
4-H Entomology
@ the NC State Fair
     Stalking stick bugs, digging for bess beetles – these adventures can lead to creating an insect collection that is eligible to enter in the North Carolina State Fair. To create your insect collection begin here or if you have one already made and are fair ready, register for the state fair by September 15th and bring your collection to the fair by Oct 11th, 2021.
The NC State Fair
October 14-24
     The NC State Fair is fast approaching so I wanted to take a minute to remind you of the opportunities that 4-H’ers can participate in at the State Fair. The State Fair dates are October 14 – 24, 2021.

For the Entry Deadlines - please refer to the Deadlines listed under each section. Haybales have a specific time to decorate.  

Entry Deadline: September 15, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. for 4-H Crafts, Exhibits, Entomology, Photography, Haybales, etc.

A reminder that we have lots of activities going on during the week of the fair

4-H Youth Development - 4-H Competitions

Exhibits must be at the Fair by Monday October 11 by NOON.  We are open 8-Noon this day.  See this section for specifics on dates you can bring your items.

Please note that items must be brought to the State Fair and you must allow time to COMPLETE your entry process by Noon –So please don’t wait til the last minute to bring them.  We are even open on the weekend prior to the Fair.

Competitions are:

County Exhibits - pre-assigned but 1 per Extension District.

4-H Crafts

4-H Photography - handbook is missing the junior section right now but I have let them know.  It will be added soon. Categories will be the same as the Senior - just a different entry number.  

4-H Entomology

4-H Hay Bale Decorating ( 1 per county – must be submitted by county 4-H agent.)
