The Whoville Christmas Classic Livestock Show is Dec. 6-8 in Lenoir, NC. Early entries are due by November 29. There will be a fundraiser dinner and auction Saturday night. Learn more at https://showman.app or at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61566608116734

Aging of Butchered Ovines (Sheep)

Processors will begin aging sheep carcasses. Anything over 14 months will be labeled as mutton during processing. A "lamb" is defined as a young sheep or ovine carcass. This is just one more reason why you should keep records of your flock that show a running record of birth dates, ear tag numbers, etc. In addition, the non-eruption of the first pair of permanent incisors will also be used as adequate support for labeling sheep as lamb.

Food Animal Concerns Trust (FACT) Grants

Fund-a-Farmer grants are taking applications now through December 8. Grants include:

  • Welfare Improvement Grants up to $3,000 each

  • Systems Change and Innovation Grants up to $10,000
