Bridging the Gap Workshop
Join us for a field day on January 30, 2025, that will be held at Butner Beef Cattle Field Laboratory, located at 8800 Cassam Rd. Bahama, NC. We will be discussing technologies to improve pasture management and winter feeding. Registration and lunch will be from 12 noon to 1 pm, with the workshops beginning at 1 pm. This event will be outdoors so dress
appropriately for the weather that day.

Topics include bale grazing and the use of temporary fencing, which should be useful for managers of all types of grazing livestock. In addition, frost-seeding and the use of UAVs (drones) serve as a strategy to jumpstart forage establishment during winter/spring, to improve pasture productivity, and to provide floral resources in the landscape.

The cost is $10 and will include lunch. This will be a great opportunity very close by to learn more about these topics that can improve pasture management on your livestock operation. The program is limited to 80 participants, so we strongly encourage early registration to secure a spot. You can register by scanning the QR code on the event flier or by going to the registration link at: https://winterfeedingandpasturemanagement.eventbrite.com

2025 Farmers Market Pilot Program
The Oxford Board of Commissioners has approved the use of the Armory site for the 2025 Farmers Market Pilot Program. This decision, made on December 10th, is a significant step towards revitalizing downtown Oxford and supporting local agriculture.Wendy Tatum, the NC Agriculture Extension Associate for Granville County pitched the proposal effectively, emphasizing the market's potential to boost the local economy and foster a sense of community. The proposal was influenced by the success of the markets in July, August, September, and October this year, agricultural needs assessments and community interest over the past few years.

The benefits of the Armory site are compelling. Its central location offers a multitude of opportunities for hosting events like CultureFest and the Music Festival, enhancing Oxford's cultural vibrancy. The market promises fresh, locally-sourced produce, keeping money within the community and supporting local businesses.

Dale Hughes of Daledoesitall (a local Youtuber) created a concept video, which showcased the future potential of the Farmers Market at the Armory site. With the board’s unanimous approval, Oxford is set for an exciting market season in 2025, bringing the community together and supporting local agriculture in a meaningful way.
