On Saturday, April 5, the Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteer Association of McDowell County is hosting a garden symposium, Gardening Outside the Lines, for county residents and other regional gardeners. This symposium will bring together backyard gardeners and gardening professionals for a day of insightful presentations featuring dynamic speakers who are leaders in their field.
Pruning is one of the most important tenants of garden maintenance and it causes the most anxiety among gardeners. They wonder: ‘Is it the right time?’, ‘Is this too much?’, ‘Should I even prune this?’.
NCCE-Burke Center is holding its annual Small Fruit Plant Sale through March 3. They are offering a variety of fruit trees & small fruits will include blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, muscadines, grapes & raspberries.
The N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell County Center “Keep McDowell Beautiful” program will facilitate the planning meeting for the Tabernacle Community Garden. Volunteers are needed to provide input on what they’d like to see growing.

It is time to start planning for summer 2025. We will be attending camp July 6-11. Residential camp is for 4-Hers 8-14 years old. Campers spend the week in cabins and get to go hiking, swimming, and canoeing with 4-Hers from across the state.
