Buncombe County 4-H is excited to offer a wide variety of summer learning opportunities for youth in 2025! We have 10 different day camps and other opportunities for youth ages 5-18 during the months of June - August. Space is limited for each camp, so register early to reserve your spot! |

Learning in the Garden Opportunity - Wattling Day on March 22nd |
Our Buncombe Extension Master Gardeners are looking for youth and parents who want to get their hands dirty and help prepare the Learning Garden at the Buncombe Extension Office for the 2025 planting season! At this event, youth and adults will learn how to create a wattle garden bed, a quick and inexpensive project you can use to expand your garden at home!

Buncombe County Soil & Water Scholarship |
Buncombe County Soil and Water has a scholarship opportunity for Buncombe County Teens! The William Hamilton Memorial Scholarship is open to Buncombe County residents attending or planning to attend a NC college or university with a declared major in agronomy, agricultural or civil engineering, sustainable land management, agriculture education, animal science, forestry, natural resource conservation or management, plant science, soil science, water management, water quality, wildlife management or other closely related degree programs. |

4-H Presentations 101 |
4-H Presentations are a huge part of North Carolina 4-H. It is one of the most successful ways to help a young person learn public speaking skills. It focuses on 4-H members teaching others what they know about a particular project/subject matter of their choice!
4-Hers who do a presentation develop self-confidence, the ability to speak in front of an audience, and the ability to think ahead.

Buncombe County 4-H is currently seeking passionate adult volunteers to assist in implementing the following 4-H programs: STEM & Electricity, Cooking and Sewing classes. The time commitment is flexible with your schedule and you will be making a lasting positive impact on kids in your community!
Volunteers are the key to success in the Buncombe County 4-H program. Whether you’re interested in starting a club and becoming a club leader or just have a few hours to invest, we have challenging and fun jobs for adults who want to make a difference in the lives of Buncombe County youth!

Calling all 4-H artists who love dogs! Youth in North Carolina are invited to participate in the third annual 4-H Dog Artistic Expression Contest. Entries are due to the Buncombe County Extension Center by May 27, 2025

Summer Resource Conservation Workshop for Teens @ NC State University |
The Resource Conservation Workshop is a weeklong intensive study and hands on conservation workshop requiring student application and participation in a wide range of conservation topics. The workshop is intended to engage students to learn about natural resources and their management in today’s environment.
Students participate in field study, tours, hands-on sessions as well as evening activities that focus on college-decision making and career decisions.
The Resource Conservation Workshop students stay on campus at NC State in dormitories and attend workshop sessions in Williams Hall, Lake Wheeler Soils Field Lab as well as field studies at Falls Lake State Recreation Area and Clemmons State Educational Forest in Clayton. |

4-H News: Hickory Nut Club Advances to State Horse Bowl Competition |
We would like to congratulate our Hickory Nut 4-H Club for competing in the 2025 West District 4-H Horse Bowl Competition in February! The Club had a two teams compete. Thanks to coaches/volunteers Brittany Keeler and Emily Nicholson for helping these youth prepare for the competition!
We wish these teams the best of luck as the advance to the State competition in Raleigh on March 8th! |

NC 4-H Camps are Hiring for Summer 2025! |
Are you ready for a summer of amazing experiences and memories that will last a lifetime? NC 4-H Camps are looking for responsible, enthusiastic individuals to serve as positive role models and mentors for youth, ages 5 – 17 at our American Camp Association accredited summer camp.
You will help provide a fun, caring, safe environment in which young people will learn to appreciate nature, enjoy the challenges of adventure activities while creating lasting friendships and memories.
